Best brand of pump Super Unleaded
In my opinion - Exxon (93 here in Texas)

from what I`ve heard, a lot of the gas comes from the same wells
Crude is (more or less) crude, it has everything to do with the refining.
Really, the fuel probably isnt all that different as long as you stick with a name brand and dont go to a shady, run down looking station. So good luck!
Props for running pump gas, IMO the coolest cars racing today are on pump fuel!

With 225 psi cranking compression, I have to get my pump gas at this station. These are the unleaded choices. They even have 110 leaded race fuel at the pump for as cheap as I have found it anywhere.

I wish we had those kind of pumps here but the 94 sure is expensive there! We have a 20 cent differance from 87 to 93.
I noticed in my MPG testing that I always got my best MPG useing BP, I don't know why but I could get another 20 miles per tank with BP. We don't have BP here so I tried a bunch of different places with little differance, even the stuff advertised as "no ethanol" and none stuck out to me except the "smiths" gas station here, Some reason it takes about 2 gallons less to fill my dakota or durango, I don't think it is better gas but the calibration of the pumps, I have ran way longer than I ever should after it hits the empty mark and it just won't take as much as it will from the other stations but it goes the same distance before hitting empty.
As for HP or true octane above or below what is on the pump I just don't know.
One more thing to think about when buying fuel is what auto makers dub "Top tier gasolines" they have the most consistantly high detergents in the gasoline. If I remember correctly Shell, exxon, and BP were on there. Top Tier is a special rateing they came out with for fuel makesrs that meet a certain standard for keeping engines clean.

I've had the best luck with:
1. BP/Amoco 93 2. Mobil 93 3. Shell 93
In that order....meaning I really try to run BP/Amoco all the time if possible, the other two in a pinch.

98 octane?? That's an 86 octane decal installed upside down.
Yah, I saw that too, but this "pump gas" sticker is straight up the coolest of the bunch!...lol

the whole notion that the gas at different stations is different is almost laughable, at least around here. we see the trucks/tankers lined up at port everglades with chevron, shell, BP, hess, and no name carriers, etc. and they all fill up from the same hose that comes from the same tank. all of those companies have different marketing for the same additives. do some real research to confirm this.

We only have Exxon, Chevron, Shell and Phillips 66 readily available.
If there really is any difference between them, I'd vote for Shell.
What I run around here (mid Atlantic) is either Sunoco or Shell.
Years ago David Vizard did some comparison of various pump fuels and did find some distinct differences between the brands. However, his info is probably so outdated today that it's not worth digging up for reference.

The station I got this picture of the pumps a few weeks ago is in Northern California's Bayarea. There are also several VP stations and I believe one Chevron station carry 100 octane Unleaded. They all meet the strict California emissions regulations, but of course the 110 octane leaded fuel is for race use only and not legal for street cars.
They are making it more difficult to even buy leaded race fuel here anymore with out giving them lots of personal info and specifying which licenced race car it is going to be used in including when and where.
