I only know one or two guys down there. That is a shame if he is taking people. Money is so hard to come by (for most of us). Looks like you got a great car now. I know I am a Dinosaur but I love that old 509 Purple shaft cam like I posted above. If you do put it in use the springs that come in the kit and stock Mopar rockers and you will not ever have any problems. You do not need adjustable rockers with that cam.

I have an Indy-SR headed 440 and I use Comp's XE295HL grind. I think it's a much better profile than the .509". If you don't want to go with a solid cam, the XE295HL grind is about as good as it gets.

You've got a nice car. Good luck.

I don't know about what you got when you bought the car, and I don't want to get involved. I do know that car ran 11.70 with a .509 cammed 440 with factory heads on it. That car got swapped around to quite a few different owners in the area ( I wasn't one of them.).

Hey Mark My old engine had 452's,big valves, some good bowl work and opened up the intake ports a bit.I used the Comp XE295HL and it drove good and raced good.
I had a 509 in it before that with the 452's and just a bowl port with the MP templates and it ran low twelves with a 3.54 gear and a Hemi 4-speed

Not really. I don't know all the details, and I really do not want to get involved. I have pretty much said everything I know in this thread.
The car does look really good in your pictures, and I hope you got all the bugs worked out.

It is disappointing to see so many members not answer your question but instead choose to somewhat negative in their advice. It's up to you to have what you want, whether it makes sense to others or not. That being said...

The 509 is a good cam. You need to match it well with other parts(you have good heads) so I don't see a problem with 11's and streetable. Hydraulic cams are my preference for dual purpose and I have never had a problem in 25 years of tuning.
Good luck..

I also have had the 509 and liked the way it ran. Old tech or not, it worked. I would like to try it someday in a 496" or so stroker. The extra cubes will take a little bit of the idle-low rpms roughness out of it and would surely make gobbs of torque.

They were ahead of their time work darn well especially if people take 5 minutes to degree them!
The stacking effect of crank key, bottom gear keyway, top gear dowel hole and dowel pin placement can have cams off by 8 to 10 deg usually 3 to 4 but not in the good way!
Proper degree for combo helps too.
With that big motor you should look at the 320 .533 mopar Hydaulic cam ran one for years street strip and loved it!
