I think the 3.23 gears are going to slow me down a bit.... Wondering how the .590 will like the 3.23's?

I do have a good 9 1/2 Dynamic (currently stalls a tad over 3000 in the .090 in the hole 440 I have with a Comp 470H) and a low first gear if that helps...

Michael

The 590 will HATE the 3.23 gears. IMO, you'll need 4.10's or steeper?

that's up to the converter. 3000 is prolly too low. prolly. i've run giant cams and tall gears many times. with the right converter, it'll be huge fun.

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

I have the 590 cam in my 408 and it really likes it! I have no reason to pay the big $ for anything else at this time.

HA HA , not entirely snooping Keith. A couple of years ago you sent me a used .590 in great shape, I just had to pay the shipping. I am trying to build a combination in my mind that I can use it now. The .590 seems to be a cam that will get a 493 close to the 600HP mark with MCH stage I ported Eddy RPM's.... Or at least I am hoping.

Like to get my '67 R/T in the 11's.....

Michael

you should be well into the 11's w/ that combo, You could probably get into the 11's w/ a 557.

Ron (383man) runs 11.4? with the .557 cam in a 3700lb pump gas street car through the mufflers.

You are right Kevin and thank you. But I use 906 iron heads at 10.0 comp. Its a .030 over 440 and I have the Holley street dominator intake with an 850 dp. I also use a Dynamic 9.5 converter with 4.30's and 30" tall tires. I drive it everywhere and it turns about 3500 rpm around 65 mph. I may use the .590 in my next build as I want to build an aluminum head RB eng and shoot for the 10's still on pump gas and still a street car that I drive alot. Thanks again Kevin , Ron

Just watching and listening(need something like this for my boat) ..... I have never run anything near a 600 lift. What kind of piston-fly-cutting would be needed on say a six pack or pop-up old-school 383 or 440 pistons ?

To the guy who asks about a 3.23 gear with this cam ... you would have as much LUCK with a 2.76 gear(my choice on lots of applications) .... your 60 footers would be HORRIBLE ... but it would pull like a freight-train on the other end !

Can you run the Crane type ductile rocker arms with this cam? Not to hi-jack the thread.

The 590 is out of the question. 323 gears and low compresion no way. the 528 solid is what you need

is the .590" lift measured with the 1.5 ratio or just on the base circle?

I'm a bit of a newbie on cam measurements.

I was thinking of getting one of those cams for a 383.

I am surprised Bob (Prosport) hasn't chimed in here. IIRC, his Dart Sport had a low deck 451 with Eddy heads...and a .590 MP stick, and went 9.90's @ 133-ish...

Rumor has it that it wasnt the MP 590. He painted the shaft purple and called it the MP .590

Wonder why the duration numbers measure that much different than what the mopar cam specs. say Do they all seem to be around 270-271 @ .050 for anyone that has checked them?

Would this cam still be pump gas friendly (93 octane) with aluminum heads and say 11 to 1 compression? Would it be worth it to use this cam in a 493 at that point for a street/strip car?

Seems like it would not be too difficult to build a 600HP 493 with MCH Eddy RPM heads and a Holley Street Dominator and thei cam? Flat tops? Maybe? Just bench racing....

I had a .030 over 440, .590 with 12.5:1 compr. mild stage 6 heads, M1, headers and it made 630HP on the dyno.

The low gear set will help with that cam. Otherwise 3.23 gears would really slow it down.

Sorry guys, been busy with baseball and car shows(Super Summit today). I actually shot 'Kevins493' a private message the day he started this thread to give him my 590 advice. I've posted it so many times I thought you guys might be tired of hearing it.

My old 73 DartSport, now owned by 73DartSport had an 11.2 to 1 compression pump gas 451(added 50% CAM2 at the track just for safety but we may run a 20% mix next time out). 400 block and 440 crank, 440 length rods. Had ported Eddy heads, 590 cam and 1.6 rockers. I installed the cam at 104 so it was 2 degrees advanced, I didn't want to go further and lose MPH. Flat tops were around .018 in the hole iirc. It went 9.96 in good air, and with the tunnel ram and 2 750's it went 9.88 or 9.89 at 134 MPH at 3050#'s with me in it.

I ran crane ductile iron rockers for a couple years and then switched to Harland Sharps just for safety. I think iron rockers from RAS would be the way to go but I do love the Harlands.

Maintenance free streetable combo that would 60 foot at 1.36 footbraking and run high 9's through a quiet X-pipe/Magnaflow exhaust system. I loved that combo and may go back to it with my next car.

Oh, also had an 8" ATI converter and 4.30 gears with 32" tall tires.
