This is a follow-up to a previous post. I have ESPO leaf springs with rubber bushings, moved inward 1" with Dr Diff relocation kit. The rubber bushing has a very annoying squeak.

I have loosened the bushing bolt to allow the assembly to move in case there was binding. It seems like the squeak is caused by the bushing rubbing the hanger.

I have tried dripping some lube on the area but it didn't seem to help.

Any ideas?

Have you tried loosening the bolt, putting it at ride height, then tightening the poop out of it? I don't think the rubber is actually suppose to move and putting lube in there will make things worst.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

That's another question I had, is the front eye supposed to be fixed? The white mark in the video is some nail polish to check. The front bushing/leaf spring does rotate as the suspension moves.

Thx

I'm not trying to be smart here, but are you absolutely sure the squeak is coming from there? Sound in a vehicle have a funny way of traveling, so to speak. What else did you disturb when you made the switch? Do you have a stethoscope? If not a small stick held on the area and up against your ear can help track down a noise like that. Are the shocks sitting at the same ride height as before? I switched springs on a car years ago that raised the car slightly, and because the shocks were slightly raised I had a squeak form one of them it took me for ever to figure out it was the shock.

No offense taken, I appreciate all inputs.

I'm fairly certain it is coming from the area. You can cup your hand around the eyelet and feel the vibration. I can also push up on the eyelet and hear a groan.

I did try to use a scope but the sound comes from the entire leaf spring, it's actually easier to hear by ear alone. And it's loudest at the bushing.

Thx

If you have put lube on it, like some petroleum product, you will have that squeak forever. And if it was oil, no amount of solvent will get it out. Well, that is my experience watching a friend try to cure his noise. He oiled every rubber bushing in his 57 Pontiac and you could hear the car a block away.

I don't understand why lube would make it squeak more?

I'm still wondering if the eyelet is supposed to rotate under load?

I guess probably so, to allow the leaf spring to flex. I'm considering putting in poly bushings, it makes so sense, but this squeaking is driving me nuts.

It doesn't take much, any suspension travel at all will cause it, the video clip is only pushing the bumper down 1-2 inches.

The outer shell of the bushing should move with the leaf spring. The inner shell should stay with the bolt and the car.

So there is no moving parts. The rubber will twist to allow movement.

The inner shell should be very tight in the box. Not neccessarily during install but definately after the bolt is tighten up and that's why it's important to do this when the suspension is loaded.

I don't think the rubber is suppose to move. If it moves it is going to squeak.

Maybe that's the problem, the bolt is completely loose now. Although the noise has not changed from when it was tight.

The bolt is inserted from the outside, with the nut on the inside. The end of the bolt touches the frame rail. So maybe it wasn't possible to tighten it enough to compress the hanger enough?

Any of that make sense?

Thx

Yes, it makes sense and it's also very easy to see.

Bounce the car and see if the bolt is moving.
