Thats huge mph for that ET
They have to walk those cars out of the hole... they're on those street tires which are of that era(dont know if they do anything to them)
I asked one of the F.A.S.T. guys at Carlisle a couple of years ago when they were there if they had to walk them out and then get after it and he said they just dropped the hammer and it hooks or it don't. I watched them at the races on Fri nite and he wasn't kidding. The Coker repros looked like they were shaved to where they were almost bald in the center and he said that the compound wasn't "special" but it was softer than the Goodyear OEM stuff was. Likely because repro tires are made more to look at than to drive on and I'll bet that soft rubber is cheaper than hard rubber from a mfg point of view.

the 429 "semi-Hemi' is in seeral ways similar to a BBC or Cleveland ford, and as was typical with Fords they have good to very good intakes combined with borderline Horribly undersized exhausts. The FE 390-427, 428 was typical of a mid 50's design Wedge.
fords achilles heel from the factory was typically the intake manifolds, even their best head designs got whacked by intakes designed primarily to maximize hood clearance.

The SCJ head does have slayed valves, just to clear up what i mentioned in a previous post. this is the Al. version. Like i thought they are not radically splayed but they are splayed. The Boss 429 is nearly as much a Hemi as the current 3rd gen hemi. I would'nt call it a porcupine head like BB chev, which, imho, looks more like the SCJ head.

One thing about that ford is he could be running over 550 cubic inches in a 460 block and still be legal. Dave is less than 500 inches if I remember correctly. The heads he is running are more of a twisted wedge than a true wedge but they are more of a wedge than a hemi. Doesn't he have to run a 3310 style carb? That is amazing to me he is makeing that kinda power with that carb. Mabey he will let them do a motor tear down like dave did.

They made Boss 429's (Semi-Hemi heads) and they made Wedge headed 429's. The once being discussed here is the wedge head 429. The SCJ 429 (wedge) engines are little known by non Ford guys but they were giant killers in stock form. I'm just shocked to see one do so well in a big Mustang, I mean that's right there with Dave's Hemi!
Obviously not a stock Boss 429 but gives you an idea what they look like. I will post a pick of the chamber next.

429 SCJ heads (originals on left, late model aftermarket versions on right) were (IMO) wedges by comparison. This is a quote from Car Craft Magazine about these heads: Quote:
The old iron head (left) as well as Ford’s previous aluminum CJ head have chambers that locate the valves close to the cylinder walls. The new heart-shaped, fast-burn SCJ chamber (right) has centrally located valves and repositioned spark plugs that are biased towards the exhaust side.

Wasn't the stock boss 429 like a 14.30's ET car & a 71 duster or demon a 14.40's ET acording to the 50 fastest list way back or something to that effect, i do remember the A-body was just behind it a tenth or less, FWIW , and for what the list is worth Fords as a hole did seem to be way back in the pack behind even OLDS and Buick.

14.30 sounds about right. The LS6 Chevelle and the Hemicuda were the quickest at 13.10 tested by magazine drivers. I do remember something about a six pack roadrunner running 12.99 in one of these tests. All these low 13 second cars would run well into the 12's with better tires. The Fords needed a lot more than tires.
