I think they may be a special compound(just need to look stock) But, Mike, what i wonder about are the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts..dang, how does he keep it under control?? 
Yeah I've heard its compound or tractionized... and
if thats the case I'm sure it might spin a little
on the shift but not much... plus it might be in
the clutch.... I dont know anything about those FAST
cars and I give them credit

And by the way, I completely disagree with your statement. Comparing a Boss 429 to a SSHemi Dart is comparing apples to oranges. The Boss was sold as a street car in the same way Chrysler sold the street Hemi's. Heck, they(Boss's)even had smog pumps!
They are TOTALLY legal.
