I respectfully disagree that the 99 Hemi is light years behind the other stuff.......didn't the 99' Hemi head just qualify #1 or #2 at the most recent NHRA Event???
and it's been around now for what ten years and you can count the times it won a national event on your fingers. Even a blind squirel finds a nut sometimes. look back at any pro stock qualifying list over that time period and see how many other times it qualified # 1 not many.Overall it's average times are middle of the pack at best.
are'nt you the same guy that insisted new 3rd gen hemi was'nt anygood and the Drag Pac challengers we're a foolish waste of money? fred ,you let your obsession with the 426 hemi taint your thought process, imho.

Jim is right. I can pick up the phone and have the parts here to build a top shelf Ford or GM 650in motor in a few days. That can't be said for the 99. Who you going to call to get the lastest chamber and port config, you're not. Plus, who builds a 650in 99 Hemi. That was the original question. Where you going to get the block, cam, or anything else you need for that matter. An older Pro Stock 99 is useless to most people, unless you want a high winding, peaky, 500in motor, that needs every aspect of it changed, to work in 90% of combos. The 99 technology has NOT filtered down to parts that most ordinary people can use and likely never will.

The answers to those questions are contained within this thread, Monte. Yes you can get a block(billet) to go over 650ci and/or do it with deck spacers and sleeves. And, BTW, i now understand what you meant(thanks to Jim!). I dont think anyone here thinks it will be easy running a '99 engine program,(and winning) but its clearly not impossible as you seem to suggest.

I agree with you, Monty, however, in my case, the 99 Hemi is a good motor for what I am trying to accomplish, as it makes good power. (1300+ on the pump, with a bunch left on the table) My car is a true 10.5, 25.5 Car, that weighs 3275 lbs., and the lack of torque with this motor is a benefit to us, as we are trying to plant the little tire. I do not have the bugs worked out of this combo due to work, family, blah-blah-blah. I still truly feel, that once my car is sorted out, it will be a player in my class. The only shame is that it has forced a Mopar guy to build a true blue, modern day Pro Stock motor, in order to compete with the X brand guys. Naturally aspirated, in the Mopar world, I have nowhere else to go, engine-wise. P.S. I am not crying about the power I have, I dig this motor, but, it just shouldn't come to this? As far as the 650+ inch question? Let's put it this way, I am a Mopar guy to the core, but, I would NEVER put myself through that kind of torture, with the parts that are currently available.

no not exactly. at the time there was no understanding with NHRA as to what would be the classification. There was a long list Chrysler made of classes it would run but no way of telling what combo would run in what classes. No HP or weight factors had been agreed upon. Also that's right when all the restructuring nonsense was going down and you had no idea if there even was any tomorrow for CHRYSLER. that's what I barked about. A package was being sold with no real future at that time. You cloud not get any info . They had just fired the head guy who had put a Viper driveline in his personal truck and dis god knows what else that got him canned. I wasn't going for a real expensive ride on a ship with no captain. I had the paperwork already turned in for one. There was way too much speculation of where it was all going.
got it straight this time. maybe you should take notes to maintain your
Bet you wished you had not been so sceptical now! Alls i remember is you posted a zillion times why the drag pac was such a bad idea.
And now we find out in this thread that Tim Banning has a new milleium hemi that makes your 604 look puny.

I guess I will carry on,even though the road is long ,cause if I listen to all that say it can't be done -nothing will never get done.I agreed it not a phone call away to get the exotic engine stuff .It is what it is,you can get up to date 99 heads from CFE with the lastest port design if you have the coin for them,we have a 4.9 head and a 5inch head out their ,is the block mopar no,but their are ways to do this if you really want to.Yes you will send a but load of money ,more than your counterparts and still not have the same power,I think today people have gotten carried away with horsepower being the end all to fame ,they still have to manage want you have and go from there ,a sort of cart before the horse menatlly .We just don't have the Fulton and sonny's guys on every corner to get what we need ,but there are guys out there who doesn't cry every day about it.My hat is off to the guys who think out the box and try the unknown and give it their all ,my 2 cents for what it worth. So why keep arguing about it.

Because there are so many myths and mystery surrounding these motors. Nowhere else can you get this info, no one talks about it, as if the '99 did'nt even exist. Yes, its an exotic motor and yes you can get screamin deals on them now. And yes, J&J is gracious enough to share his wealth of info and any parts that may be needed. You can think of Roy as our sonnys if you want to. he has an open door policy...just ask.

i'm still trying to figure out what makes any of these engines being discussed a mopar. these are purpose built race engines that in reality share nothing with a standard engine. the vast majority of the heads are very similar regardless of what you put on the valve cover.

You need to hurry up and show us the pic's of the billet block with the 99 heads on it.
I will see if I can get a couple pics of it from the owner....dont forget the Marcella intake .....he said it is a work of art.
I have talked to CN about a block in case I cant scrape up the cash for this engine before he sells it. The blocks can be had in about 5 weeks time
If anybody wants to get in on a competitive Outlaw 10.5 68 Cuda race team to run at Cecil/Atco against the fastest cars out there, let me know...we can have the motor in the car and running in about a month

Here is a link to the guy who has the billet hemi (not in this article, but interesting)
http://www.moparmax.com/features/featurecar/iii_2-twin-1.html
Sucks it no longer has the Hemi in it
Yeah, I know. He told me the only reason he switched to the Sonny's was because it took soo long for CN to get the block designed and to him. He ran his Hemi combo for years and had it pretty much figured out after alot of R&D......he said he wanted to race last year and his Hemi wasn't ready
So, the notion that the Hemi is easy, cheap, or quick is a no brainer, IT IS NOT!
Here is another thing to ponder on how the Hemi stacks up against the Sonny's....
737" Sonny's = 4.39 @ 2850# in the 1/8th 500" Hemi = 4.50 @ 2750# in the 1/8th
I would LOVE to know how the 650" would stack up to that 737"
