I can't help but wonder why Allen Johnson's MPH was off by over 1 MPH from the previous runs. Missed tune-up or a mechanical problem?

Jeggie may be a good driver, but for this particular race, his eliminations RT average is only a bit over .01 better. Both are pretty consistent. Not easy for anyone.

ok I'll reword that anyone that is a halfway descent
driver can cut a light on a pro tree just sayin maybe if you can't cut a light on a pro tree consistently you should not be racing!!!!! if your car react's and your late you suck!!!!!!!

AJ was one of the better leavers till the tree went to LEDs a few years back. Don't know if it's cause or coincidence. Could be the LEDs helped everyone else but AJ.

that was a lot of it if you notice the bad driver's caught up on the tree when they switched to LED's..... it leveled the playing field quite a bit

Well speaking as someone who has run a Pro Tree my entire racing career things have changed.

The old filament bulb where different. You looked at the tree totally different. .040 lights were considered awesome. The guys like Alderman and Allen Johnson could sometimes do even better than awesome. They were accused of being up to something more than once. They were even accused of taking a shot at the tree.

NHRA switched to LED trees. All of a sudden even Top Fuel Dragster and funny car were able to seem respectful on the tree. The Pro Stockers were .00 the tree. Guys like Allen Johnson were screwed because he had many red light starts after that. I know several times they have adjusted the clutch linkage to try and slow Allen down. This is what happens when things get changed to help a chosen few.

Personally the LED done nothing to help me guess it is what I was seeing in the old filament bulbs.

the led has nothing to do with being consistent. AJ has been all over the place lately. if anything it speeds up reaction times. just curious have you ever raced on a .4 pro tree?

I use a blinder....so kinda and I can go .0000 on the tree with no bumps footbraking in a car that runs 7's in the 1/8..... oh and my worse reaction time this year has been a .046 and I knew I missed it and I have had 2 .000's so far this year in 4 weeks.... during the day I'm .020-.030 at night I'm .0's-teens I'm a second generation racer so don't blow smoke up my azz saying it ain't the same all I can see is the flash of the 3rd so I'm basicly leaving off of a .500 pro tree..... I never said my car would cut a good light on a .400 pro tree maybe going way deep!!!

we are not talking bracket racing a 7 second 1/8 mile car here. you said anybody should be able to cut good lights on a pro tree. don't care if you are a 3rd generation driver that statement tells me you don't have a clue about what your talking about. sorry

Everyone always talks about how hard it is to speed up. Well sometimes it is harder to slow down. Depends on what are you doing to slow down. I know Allen had to slow down when the LED came out. So could it be that what he is having to do is inconsistant. Or is he just screwing up.

I find inconsistancy in my lights. I was dead late Sat night first round as the other driver refused to stage and they turned the tree on while I was waiting for him to stage. Then I spun right off the button and was late with a .149, then got things together for .058, .050, .019, then .107. How did I cut a .107> I can tell you we rolled the bottom bulb together and I got way to much finger on the button. The other guy who supposedly did such agreat driving job only cut .086. I'm sorry but that is a sucky light.

Not to make this about me but we all can't be perfect all the time. remember most of us are letting off a brake pedal or just a button. Big difference in rolling a beam with a clutch and then coming off it to cut a light. If you can do better buy a car and buy some Johnson power to put in it.

Alderman's retirement had nothing to do with him not being able to cut a light. Back pain, and some other factors is why he made the decision he did.

Except the Pro field uses a .400 pro tree. So you would be cutting .100 lights! Big difference if you have never done it before.

I've raced a street truck on a friday night went in deep and was .515 i think on a .400 tree that was in a bone stock S-10.... so your trying to tell me my car that 60's 1.46-1.49 will not be able to cut a light on a .400 tree deep!!!! clueless it can be done!!!!! you just have to get in deep enough but LIKE I SAID MY CAR WILL NOT REACT FAST ENOUGH TO CUT A LIGHT SHALLOW!!!!!! BUT BET YOUR BOTTOM DOLLAR PUT ME IN A CHASSIS CAR AND WITHIN 5 RUNS I WILL CUT SOME TEENS AND 0H'S!!!! come up into my neck of the wood's and I'll bet you go home w/ your tail between your leg's!!!!! and no I'm not being cocky I'm confident I race with a few of the best racers around!!! and I know I have the ability to beat anyone I Don't give a flyin *^%* who is in the other lane I've put my fair share of heavy hitter's on the trailer!!!!!! ok I'm done ranting LIKE I SAID IF YOU CAN"T CUT CONSISTENT LIGHT's ON A PRO TREE QUIT YOUR WASHED UP!!!!! also I do own a practice tree(got it for christmas when I was 8 or 9 years old so I can pop off a string of light's darn that was about 20 years ago

if you read above I said my car would never cut a light on a .400 tree (actually .370 now) just that If you can't cut consistant light in say a purpose built(set up for .370 pro tree) if you can't cut a light you better give it up..... everyone has their off days but if you can't ever string together a good day at least one time a month your wasting your money and you'd be better off test and tuning!!!!
