My question is why would you order the cam direct from them? On the 2 custom grind cams I purchased I called and got a quote from Comp the other was Lunati. The price they gave me seemed high, so I ordered them both through Summit and saved like a $100.
There isn't a way to order the cams nitrided via the Summit website - I tried. :-(

Whats wrong with the cams that the Nitride treating is needed? I would be calling Bullet Racing If I were you.
My next cam may very well be coming from Bullet. I have another 340 motor to work on after this one. I have a total of 3 340 motors... this street one, the one in my Duster right now, and the W5 at RyanJ's shop.
For this particular motor (the 418 going into my baby blue 65 Dart) it is going into a daily driven street car (10,000 miles a year) going to the strip about 15 times a year so I want the cam to be bulletproof and last forever.

I just got this email from Comp Cams... Marvin, Ok, the nitriding process is a process that has to be done while the camshaft is being built. I cannot just grab a production, already finished camshaft off the shelve and nitride it. There is a coating on the camshaft called parkerization, that is a coating to help the camshaft through it’s break in. Once this coating has been applied to the camshaft it cannot be nitrided. So, to nitride the camshaft we have to custom build a camshaft, that has to in a since has to break in between production. So there’s an added labor charge to have it built. Unfortunately the website is a bit misleading. Thanks, SamI guess that explains things a bit... but that doesn't explain why they don't simply build the extra charge into the $105 for nitriding instead of surprising the customer with extra charges. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tsk.gif) Bad business practice if you ask me...

Have you tried an Engle Cam, Marvin?
When is your 318 going to get done so you can show me how good Engle cams are? ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif)
So much and - when are you going to start doing and and so you can finally go to the track and while I at you and over your dragster while secretly thinking you are ...

Engle Cam is going in the 542 for the Colt. It is in the mock up stage now and forcast says for about 3 to 4 weeks and it will be on the dyno. Then it's on to the small block in the front engine car for the wife.
Wait... you're making your wife race the 318 front engine dragster? Is she going to be racing in the ADRA? :-)
Are you bringing your 542 Colt to Speedworld?

With a little good fortune, it will be back making noise very soon.
That is really cool. When my 416 W5 and your 542 are done, we should have a heads up match... winner gets free fuel for a year. ;-)

My nitrided cam showed up. Looks super nice. I need to sort out a few details and then we'll get the motor fired up. This is a 293MM which is a fairly aggressive flat tappet.
Hey Andy, whats the specs on that cam, if you don't mind.

Andy, this sounds/looks like a good build! Did I miss a previous post on the combo? Is it going to be featured in a magazine? I don't know if $0 is true since you are doing R&D work for them at the same time. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif) Thanks again for your tech articles and builds!! Don

Nitrided MM293S-8 with 26055 beehive springs and the EDM lifters. We'll see how she does on the dyno.
The nitrided cams look like they get a little extra attention. Maybe they polish them first? This cam came in a mailing tube inside the normal box. That is the first time I've seen Comp add the extra shipping protection.
