I've been trying to think of a way to put '63 Dodge hubcaps on my later model (small centered) wheels. I especially wanted to try them out on my patrol car wheels as I thought they'd look pretty sharp.

Here's what I came up with.

I took a later model dog dish and using two part epoxy I spread it evenly on the face. I then put the early hubcap ('63) over it and pressed it down evenly. Here's what it looks like:

I repeatedly tried to pry them apart with no luck.

I used PC-7 Epoxy FYI

Same wheel with dogdish patrol car caps:

purty smart!! hopefully the epoxy doesn't throw off the balance of the wheel!!

Yeah, you and the wife both! She keeps thinking they'll go spinning off the car and down the highway.

I racked my brain for some kind of mechanical bracketry to try and put the caps on and really couldn't come up with anything do-able that didn't require a whole bunch of effort.

I guess we'll see if they'll stay on at a buck thirty plus!

Oh yeah, that weighs nothing compared to the '69 Polara/Charger full hubcaps! Those things gotta weigh 10-15 lbs apiece!

Why not get the correct wheels? Have you tried removing the caps(s) from the wheel yet?

great idea,I hope it works as I have been trying to figure out a way to do the exact same thing without any luck.the reason of course is to use readily available 15x7 or 15x8 wheels with the 67 and down large diameter dog dish caps.

If you can wait until tomorrow I'll show you an easy way!

The reason I did it is because I already have a bunch of the later model wheels and was looking for an economical way to adapt the earlier caps to them.

And to answer the question, yes, I've repeatedly taken it off and put it back on the wheel to make sure it works.

I ran across a guy from Chicago that made some adapters out of heavy plastic , probably cut with a machine. They would work on a 4 tab wheel ( 9 inch cap wheel ) but not very well on a 3 tab wheel.
Problem was they were going to be pricey , beacuse of the chunk of plastic amd the machine work.
I have seen the cap in a cap system used a few times at Carlisle.

take a piece of 1/8"x 3/4" flat hot rolled steel. cut pieces 7/8" long. scribe a line 3/8" in on the 7/8" length. put the 3/8" scribed end in a sheet metal brake and brake to 90 degrees. weld the 3/8" section to the wheel nub in the horizontal position, the 1/2" section will be vertical. do this on all the nubs and snap the hubcap on.
