Hi Bob..
I've looked at many websites but I can't find where it was before... CompCams, Lunati??...Maybe it was when I was checking valvetrain harmonics last fall?

but anyhow..
Basically it stated if the adjuster is screwed out too far to make up for a short pushrod the sweep or arc(geometry) is increased. It sideloads the pushrod cup adding more heat.
But there other things that cause burnt pushrods..lash, spring pressures, lack of oiling, etc..
and then this...

I'm glad this came up , was checking lash & found 5 pusrods burn't , i have pr oiling along with spray bars , plenty oil up to the cup as i checked again yesterday , all these burnt pushrods are exhuast , these are brand new from Smith Bros , one thing i did'nt do was to lube the cups before fire up , did'nt think this necesary due to oiling direct to cup , funny the ex have taken the hit , all adjusters are within spec of Jessel (adjuster nut flush with top of adjuster) , i just don't know why this happened? , had four spare to which i lubed before intall , will pull the covers & check again after a good run.

Sounds like you need the open up the lash on the exhaust to cool the valve off.. my

I haven't taken any adjusters out of my old indy setup, but i know on the T&D's, pushrod length is critical because they have a groove machined in the adjuster that has to match up with the feed hole in the rocker (if oiling through the shaft); if the pushrod is the wrong length (there is about a 1 turn tolerance either way), you don't get any oil to the pushrod, and it burns the tip.

plus on the PR oiling if its set up wrong it
wont push oil to the shaft bearing... with the TDs
(ball and ball PR type) there isnt any threads showing
the cup sets up in the rocker about flush with the
lower edge of the rocker and yes you only get about
1 turn to play with
