Let me get this straight, your first post said you had your yoke 2" sticking out. Every body said that was to much and should be 3/4" -1". Then you shorten the drive shaft 1" that would now make it three inches out ????????????? Hope you have more tail shafts as your going to need them. Oh there's one more thing, if you have one of the original type tail shaft boot seals that stick out 1 1/2" from the tail shaft, you need to run the yoke flush with that.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Back in the 70's we were busting tailshafts amost every weekend. Turned out that the driveshaft that was "balanced" by a reputible shop wasn't even close. Sent it to another shop and the problem stopped. Vibration was not noticable in the car.

Had the same problem last year. Got a new driveshaft from a reputable builder, and started breaking tailshaft housings. Took the shaft to another place to check balance, and it was way out. They fixed it, and no more problems.

Was occasionally breaking a tailshaft running high tens. As we tweaked the HP and started going faster, we started breaking more. Ran two bars from the cage to the front of the car, installed an fore/aft engine limiter, changed the trans mount. This was all done in between having the driveshaft checked at two different places including having it shortened during the dana install. Ended up getting a new driveshaft (aluminum) and all has been ok since.
