well guys i went out to tnt tonight and it was ok but could be better...1st here is the combo
340 bored 30
stock stroke crank with h beams and dome tops
j heads with clean up 240/140@500
comp cam 244/252@50 solid cam 520/540 with 1.5 roller rockers
x-cal intake port match to head with 1" open spacer,950hp 82/88jet 6.5 pv fr/no pv bk pick cam
36 timing locked out with a open spacer
727 with 9.5 verta 5000 that flash at 4000
with 4.57 gears and 28/10.5 slick m/t@13psi.
electric water pump drive and alum radi.
best last yr of 7.54@89.?? and 1.67'/with 111 fuel
with the 950 the car will bust up at the end of the track (1/8) right at the end light at finish.
so next run
new best of a .095 rea.

tire psi i thought was 12 but was realy 7
next run the computer was down and i think was my best but on time ...([Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean])

next time i made some changes/100oct. fuel
went to a 750 aed/ho with a 4 hole spacer
with i thought was 11psi but was 16 and went

now my car went the fastest with best time with the 950hp and (i think 17psi in the tire)
but my best mph was with the 750aed/ho at 90.005mph

what makes the 950 bust up at the end of the track???sounds like the valve spring going bad...but then i put the 750 on and run out the back door....
now with the 950 it seems that the carb would spin worst then go..(my buddy said he can hear the car spinning the wheel he was on the track with me)but the 750 did not spin as bad or leave as hard but ran out the back door....what should i do work on the 950 or get a 750???? the verta would flash 4000 at about 10mph from a roll, i did get to check that....at 1st i thought i needed some new springs but now i am lost so i thought i would ask the pro's.....i know the car has more in it but where should i start with it????so come on small block guys help me out.. i learned that me tire press. gauge was so far off like 5psi then i change that psi after the 2nd time pass
so do you guys think carb is to big or just need to work on it???

The only way I can see a carb causing it to " bust up " would be if the fuel pump wasn't keeping up with things.
Do you have a fuel pressure gauge ?
Minimum 3/8ths fuel line ?
Clean pick up in the tank ?
With the parts described , I would be expecting a little bit more than you are getting.
I'd probably start looking at fuel delivery for the problem.

my fuel system is 1/2 alum. line from 8gal. cell all to holley blue pump then to holley reg. and a fuel filter then to the carb inlet line..the press. gauge set on 7.5 when i go higher it seems to be realy rich but now only thing i changed was the carb and spacer and like i said with the 750 aed/ho it pulls all the way though with no problem,but with the 950hp it will pull just til the 1/8 mark and stat to bust up like it needs new springs or something...i just dont know where to start......but i had my best time with the 950hp..also with the 950 he buddy that was at the line with me said he could hear the car blow the tire off when i leave.... i have a vid. of the car leaveing on the 1st pass and then the 3rd ill try to post not sure if i can but i need to get on this fuel deal...i know the car has way more in it if i work it out.....even had chevy guys talking about how good it should run if i get it right. so any help or ideas would be great

That covers the fuel system.........I think.
It sounds like a delivery problem still based on what you describe.
Bucket test after the filter ?

My personal opinion is that it probably doesn't have enough cubes or cam to want the 950 on a 344" motor. I'd work on the 750...

I didn't see you mention jetting up the 950? If you didn't attempt to play with the jetting I would start there.

Does the 950 have jet extensions in the rear? IMHO the 950 is to much carb. My pump gas 344 ran 7.30s in the heat and low 7.20s in good air with the same intake you have, a 750 and a hydraulic cam that was 237/242 @ .050. The car was 3300# with a 4400 rpm converter and 4.30 gears. The carb was a Quick Fuel Q-750, power valve in the front only, the jets were 72f/78r. The heads were ported Edelbrocks.

my 341" (318 based) with e heads and bowl ported eddies works really well with the 830 annular and stock 78 jets, we'll find out how well once I get some more tire up under it!

i cross the line at 6500 and when i was on the return road i flash the verta it goes to 4000 its a 9.5 5000.

My X head, solid cam 360 runs 7.8's with a
FBO prepped 650 mighty demon. My engine is
tired and needs to be rebuilt. I run a
mechanical holley strip fuel pump.
Setup the 750 and run it.

That 950 probanly needs to be rejetted, i had that same similar problem once.

yea it easter sunday and now i have to work on the car today..hahaha so ill be looking over things checking how long it takes to fill 1 gal. a few other things i guess....ill keep you posted..

The 950 isnt too big.... might be slow on the hit
but the engine will take what it wants... I would
look at tuning the 950 which I guess you didnt...
you said it was spinning more with the 950 more
than the 750.... tune the suspension after you get
the carb figured out.... JMO

My Cuda with .030 340, stock rods and crank. TRW 12:1 pistons and a 750 race carb would go 1.42 60ft and 7.00 - 7.07 depending on the heat. With a dual plane Edelbrock AirGap...

Nothing high dollar. It's a .30 over 360 with stock crank turned 10/10, Ross 12.5 pistons, Eagle H-beams rods, The 585 Comp solid lift cam, Home ported J-heads with 2.02/1.60 valves, Victor jr intake with 750 holley dp, 1.5 rockers.

yea thanks mr.p i think it will take the carb aswell just need to fig. out what it likes . i have thougfht about a air gap but this car is more track (going that way anyhow) than street...i plan to put a cage in it this yr cause my son is going to take the seat with my shoulder surgery i have a hard time in it right now and my doctor told me 2 weeks ago i am going to need 1 more this yr. to replace my right shoulder...plus i can take a 10th off with him his more than a 100 pounds lighter ...so i think i my set up the intake to something more race later when i take the heads off and send them out to be worked over ...hay 727 thats a great combo you have thereand seems to be working very well. i think a set up in cam would not hurt this thing either since with the lash and all the intake should be under 500 and just over 500 on ex. with 1.5 rollers so i plan to tighten the lash after i get the fuel worked out to see if it help or hurt it ....hope to have the 8"verta soon....... 727 if you dont mind me asking again what does your heads flow and at what lift...mines only go 240/140@500 so i know i need to work them some
