Hello All, I'm installing an XV power window kit in my 70 challenger with the intent to make it look like a factory installation. The biggest areas the need addressed are the window switches, and the wiring where it passes through the door jamb area.

I think I've got the window switches all figured out. The only thing I'm having problems with is finding the correct style grommets for the wiring in the door jamb area.

I have a complete original power window setup, but don't want to chop up the harness just for the grommets.

Does anyone know where I can get the correct grommets?

How many years did mopar use these?

Which cars can they be found on?

Is the same grommet used elsewhere on the car maybe?

Is it mopar only, or can I cut them off a ford or chevy? (which one?)

Any help appreciated!

Tav

While I can't give you an exact answer, I'm sure other mopars from similar years used the same grommets for the PW setup. I remember seeing on some 69-71 C-bodies the grommets looked identical. I don't think this grommet is used anywhere else on the car.

Thanks, Anyone know when power windows were first offered, and if it used these grommets? (I'm guessing mid 60's)

I'll try to post a picture of my original harness grommets in the next few days so everyone knows what I'm talking about. There are 4 grommets. One in each door, and One on each side of the car by the upper door hinge. Also, the ones in the doors are a little bigger than the ones by the hinges.

The grommets were similsr through the eighties but the outer diameter varies...Not a problem on a clone just drill the hole to fit the grommet but if the holes are already drilled you need to find the correct grommets...BTW if the holes aren't drilled you'll find there are factory dimples in the door & "A" pillar showing the factory locations....

Hey Tav, keep us posted on the details and how the kit works for you please.

Another option would be to cut off the older grommets. Then you can remove and re-use them without cutting the wiring. It is not perfect, but would probably not be visible once installed, and I am assuming the restored car won't be out in the elements much anymore where the functionality for sealing would be required... mostly just to stop wiring from rubbing bare.

The XV kit looks real good, but I haven't test fit it yet. Soon...

They build to order, but it only takes a week.

After looking at it, I think using the factory style window switches will be a snap except for maybe the drivers switch which may require a little more work. I'll keep you all posted as it comes together, and let you know how to do it. Keep an eye out for those grommets for me will ya.

Tav,
I'm sending you some e-mails now... check out the ads here, like in C-Body For Sale... lots of those luxo-cruisers came with power windows, and many are now parts cars, maybe other sites like C-Body Dry Dock too.

I am also thinking about this mod in the future for my sig car. Some pics of modifications to the harness to use the factory switches would be great if you get a chance.

I'd have to go measure but the 74 B set looks promising...

Here's my pic. Looks like the E body grommets are 1 7/8 hole size for the door, and 1 3/8 hole size for the body.

It's pretty amazing that mopar used so many different grommets.

getitgone please let me know if I can have 2 of each of these sizes and if I owe you anything for them.

Tonight on the shop floor I spread out the XV harness on top of the OE harness. The XV harness is slightly shorter, but I don't think I'll have any problems with it. It was made for a challenger. I guess I'll find out for sure when I test fit everything in the car once I get my hands on some grommets.

I'll keep posting as things progress to let everyone know how it's going.

I started with the left rear (behind the driver).
