I wasn't able to make the Mopar race at Speedworld on 3/14 but made it to the track the day before instead. I never saw any advertising for the race on sunday on any of the forums at all. I know they were running a quick-32 race at the same time, but I wanna know about the Mopars.

If anybody went.... was there much of a Mopar turnout?

I drove out from So Cal. I had a great time. Got to talk to Bernie Longjohn the track manager a few times. I knew him from Palmdale. He is one of the BEST. Because he runs the track for the racers and he has ALWAYS been fair to me.
I love Speedworld. Always seem to hook good there and I love the Cheeseburgers.
Unfortunately there were only about 10 -15 mopars there racing. Probably about 20 cars in the Q32. There was also a handful testing. Basically you could get LOTS of passes if you wanted. There were times where if you hot lapped the Guy would let you roll back up for another.

I intend to talk this race up on here next year. I love this event and it is near death. I only hope he still has it next year. MOPAR MOPAR MOPAR! LETS GO!

We had only 7 or 8 Mopars on Saturday. I had a great time out there - and always do! There were probably 80 or 90 cars on saturday for the ADRA race. I was just making some time runs - but I still got all I wanted. Hopefully the race next year will get at least a little bit of exposure - even if we have to do it!

So.... how'd your car do out there?

My Best was 11.15 @ 117.5 with a 1.46 60ft.

I do think at sea level I would be getting mighty close to that 10.99 !

I was pretty happy with how my car was running. I will be going to Woodburn later this year and possibly Sacramento. Maybe I will get some decent conditions and get that 10.99 time slip.

Of course if I ever get the 501 finished then it will hopefully be a 9.90 ET, and the crate (motor) will be put back in the crate for safe keeping.

I wonder if being so close to the MATS that it hurts the attendance. I know 5-6 years ago it was Mopar weekend at Speedworld, the last few years has been on Sundays only and it seems like less cars each year. Maybe if they moved it to the fall it would get a better turn out? Mid October or later and weather should be nice enough and the track temps not to high.

I was not sure if there was going to be a race so I sent an eMail to Mopars Unlimited of Arizona asking if there was going to be a race. They never bothered to get back to me. I remember when it was a two day event with a lot of cars and a big car show, with a swap meet and quite a few vendors.

Last year there were few racers, and even fewer show cars and no vendors. I'm afraid there won't be a get together next year if they do not get the word out. This year there was nothing about the race on their web site.

Seven MOPARS...six going down the track and one in the car show.
It turned out to be the Quick 15 instead of 32.
I was very disapointed in the local racer turn out. Where were all the racers that keep saying there are no MONEY races in Arizona?

I would have thought that with Firebird closed - that the guys from the east side would have all showed up at Speedworld. My heap was running close to it's best but nowhere quick enough to go anywhere close to a quick-32 race. That low turnout is really surprising to me.

I guess it either has to be raining or a million degrees outside to attract the AZ racers? Maybe they just can't handle racing in perfect weather? LOL

In all honesty - they just needed to promote the event in any form or fashion. People don't just "magically" show up on the right day for a race. They have to actually find out about it first.

I remember a Gold Nugget that raced back in the 80's @ Muncie Dragway in Indiana, but cannot remember if it was a 68 or 69. I know another member on here that remembers the car also, maybe he will catch this.

He hurt the motor two weeks ago, but brought out his blue Road Runner for last weeks race.

I remember the car I grew up watching it the original owner was Doug Droll
it raced at Bunker Hill until the early 90's. Just wondering how the old car is doing now, whats it run??? does it still light up the win light, ect...

I just remember the way it left the hole, it always looked like the body was going to seperate itself from the rest of the car. Neat piece, hope I get to see again someday.
