Scott - You seem to have a great knowledge of plastics, where these were/are used, and how to repair them. For the benefit of others, can you prepare a matrix/table by car, year, and applicaton of what is where? I had a mopar magazine back in the early 90's that had this information (article also talked about flame tests on scraps to determine plastic type).

Larry, sounds like a good joint venture idea. If you'll take the time to construct the matrix I'll take the time to fill in any blanks with plastics I.d.'s wherever I can and we can post it for anyone who'd like to use it. I can also incorporate a burn test chart (the magazine article you mention was on the basic side, we can do better).

you would be amazed and what a good scrubing with a bristle brush and cleaner will do

Erode them and degrade them to uselessness is what. I painted mine but when I was cleaning them before paint I had to be very careful not to scrub too hard or I would have scrubbed the texture right off the flaking plastic!

It depends on what panels you are talking about, how the parts were prepped for paint, and what type of paint was used. Post a pic of the individual parts and I'll try to ID which types of plastic(s) we are discussing here.
