I know a couple guys still use mechanical
pumps in the F.A.S.T class.. My car might
not have the hp that you might around 500
and I use the carter 6903..
My car runs high 11s at 115mph 3940lbs
stk stroke.. I hate those noisey things..

For the power level that you are looking at, I would go with the highest flowing mechanical pump you can find. My brothers car was in going 10.70s with a high volume carter mechanical pump, we were told it wasnt enough so we got suckered into a noisey Edelbrock electric pump and the car runs the same. I installed a Holley 150 Billet fuel pump on my neighbors pump gas 511 HEMI with 1/2 fuel lines and that thing is very quiet. I would definitely run that pump if I were to buy a new one. I think it could easily flow enough fuel for 700hp. Nice pump also. I mounted it with some large rubber insulation pads and then ran the new XRP cloth braided black hose with AN fittings on both sides of the pump and I think it really keeps the noise down. My wifes car has a Magnafuel 300 and its a nice pump, but its noisey.

don't hold me to this (never used them) but i believe people have had some issues with the clay smith pump. a mechanical would be nice for a street car. i wonder what Dwayne was using on his satellite. afaik he was running a stock fuel system on that and it ran pretty good. just wondering what a HV carter would do with bigger plumbing on both sides of it. losing a few HP is one thing leaning out the engine is another.

I run a Clay smith mechanical pump in my 72 Challenger and works great so far. The problem is you have to grind on the pump to clear the block. A little metal removal and it fit great! Its rated at much more HP than my 560hp 440 stroker, so I think I should be fine at the strip when I take it there. The pump has 1/2" npt inlet and outlet and requires a regulator.

It's time to get working on the Barracuda again, it'll probably see mostly street use with some trips to the track now and then. 4.15 crank 440, .040 over, around 498 inches. 11:1, hydraulic cam, prepped Edelbrocks, Holley 950 HP, I'm guessing it'll be in the 550-570 horsepower range.

I'm looking for a pump that will handle the fuel needs of the motor, be dependable, and be quiet as possible. Any suggestions?

Any chance of you wanting to hop this combination up in the future with a power adder like NOS? If so buy and install a lot better fuel delivery system than you need for the present combination Way better to overbuy and not need it than it is to have to buy it again in another year or two. I have had issues with a Mallory 140 pump and the proper Mallory two port regulator keeping up with a stock stroke 440 with a set of inexpensive ported iron "346" heads with stock size valves

however, more to the point about the OE 5/16 line......i had a roller cammed 448 with ported big valve 906's in the car from '95-'97, running high 10's/125+ in summer air.......with nothing but the OE 5/16" line and a Carter mechanical pump.
best ET from that combo was 10.61, best speed was 129, best 60' time was 1.46(all from different runs).....also done with the full interior, flat steel hood, battery up front, and crank driven water pump......and 3650lb race weight.

For a good, reliable and quiet electric pump, you can't go wrong with the Mallory 140. More than enough to handle 600 horses and then some.

When I asked a few years back this is the advice I was given also. My 140 has served me well, but at least for me, it is no quieter than a Holley blue. Pretty dang noisy. Maybe it is how I have it mounted?

ok I have a 512cid edelbrock victor heads roller cam tunnel ram two 650cfm carbs for now. This mechanical pump talk has me thinking. I'm having to put a new fuel system in this year and am sick of the noisey pump I have now. Is a mechanical pump arm going to be compatable with the cam. Comp solid roller.

solid roller you'll need a bronze tipped pushrod. i've heard of guys putting some brazing on the tip. that's what i'll do when the time comes. i sure love my mechanical pump!

I just installed an Aeromotive 11203 pump on mine. Fairly noisy but will hopefully do okay.

Well.... when I bought the Barracuda it had a blown-up 383 in it, and it has a Carter pump on it. But I've looked the pump over and there doesn't seem to be a part number to identify it as to which pump (street/street-strip) it is. Anyone know how to tell?

The carter race electric fuel pumps are BLACK and I think they are rated for 15 PSI.

I think your engine has the potential to exceed what any mechanical pump can be reasonably expected to reliably support.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Sorry, I should've been more specific. I have the Carter mechanical pump that came with the car, but don't know how to tell which mechanical pump it is...

Have any of you guys had any experience or knowledge with this particular mechanical pump. Saw this somewhere a while back and kept the link, just interested for simplicity sake since it was alky compatible and mounted in stock position. Just curious.

I have been running their pump on my car now for 4 years with zero problems. I would highly recommend one. I'm going to E85 this year too. Jim
