I suppose the design of the skid plate has a lot to do with it, but I jack my car up with a standard floor jack and it slides under the plate [ barely ]. I actually have the "T" bars set a little low as well. My tires are 245x45x17 and are 26 inches in diameter. Like most cars of that era it came with rather smallish '70 series 14 inch tires and wheels. FWIW I think a well designed skid plate can add a bit of strength and stiffness to the "K" without adding a lot of weight.

Do you have a picture of your skid plate? That would be very helpful.

Thanks.

We had a 440 Source 7 Qt pan in our 73 Challenger when it had a 440 in it and it was pretty scared up. Never leaked, but it wasn't pretty. I know the boy "found" one of those raised service station fuel tank covers ;even with the 340 in it now we avoid those things because of the headers.

I second the request for skid plate pics.

That's the pan that should be made.

I've got the Hemi pan on a Challenger. As posted above, its only about an inch lower than stock. I also have a skid plate on the K member. That skid plate has saved the pan more than once. This winter I cleaned the plate up and repainted to protect the several scratched areas.

I drive on "real" midwest roads and push it from time to time. My front suspension is just a bit lower than stock with stout T bars and shocks. I would never run a pan deeper than stock without a plate!

That's not a skid plate, it's an atomic blast deflector!

Yeah that's the look I was after. Mission accomplished
Last summer a racoon tested it and lost.

David I'll do my best regarding the pictures, but it may be awhile. I am a lot more familiar with wrenches than I am with computers. If it wasn't for computer knowledgeable friends I wouldn't have avatar or sig. pictures. If it helps I modeled mine after the factory Hemi plates, just a little deeper and heavier gauge. My plate is just a bit lower than my Milidon pan. Since the plate angles downward from the front anything it hits causes the front of the car to raise up, hopefully enough to clear anything before it drops back down. So far so good. I've been driving it for six years and roughly 40,000 miles now and have yet to ding the pan [ knock on wood ]. With that kind of mileage in six years I think I can safely say that it really is a street car and that the skid plate has been adequately field tested.

I changed out a deep Milodon pan for the road race 31580.

It is a killer piece and I have no worries about bumps or oil problems. Trap doors, the works.

I suppose a crank scraper would be good to take care of oil control concerns but I live with a tray and no regrets.

I have no pics but it tucks super well with no pan.

Pricey, at 450.00 including the pickup but I won't be buyng another pan for a LONG time.

I want my fair share
