I am fully aware of the '64 2% cars. There were also 4 2% '65 HTs built, and one of them was the Missile. They were built before the AWB cars. This has been well documented. A side photo of the Missile in 2% configuration was even used in a Plymouth ad. That same car was later converted to the 10"/15" AWB configuration in Oakland, CA instead of being built at Amblewagon, but was a factory-supported car.
I made no statement about converted street cars; what I said was that some deals included the use of street cars, as in a perk.

As for the Color Me Gone / Mr. Norm's car, it has not turned up. It basically did fall off the face of the earth after Mr. Norm repo'd it for non-payment from the guy who got the car when they were done with it. It did kick around the Grand Spaulding shop for a while; there is pictures of the retired and somewhat parted-out hardtop sitting around with some of the later flip-top Chargers and such.

What happeend to it after that is (as far as I know) still a mystery. Gotta be somebody out there that knows something, but they arent talking! I do know that Gary Dyer had spent some time attempting to track down the car as well as some other people with deep resources. You'd think that Dyer would be able to find the car if it was still alive.... There is a 1/25 model of it in my basement though!

Almost gauranteed it's sitting in a backyard in some tiny little town, ever so slightly visible from the road that about 4 people drive down on thier way to the market every other week.

Anyone know if the Roger Lindamood - color me gone / MR Norm 1965 Dodge hdtp ever found? Last I heard it fell off the map after MR Norm's ownership. Excellent thread so far and huge props for all the information. I've always been a big fan of the early superstock/AFX cars and there history/evolution

I'm not sure what happened to the original ex-Color Me Gone / Mr.Norm's Grand Spaulding 65 AFX Dodge, but here are
some pic's of the 65 Dodge hardtop & sedan AWB cars.

Supposedly Butch Leal sold the 65 California Flash hardtop to Mr.Norm and one night his mechanic took the car out
to do some street racing with it, and he ended up wrecking the car and totaled it!

This 65 Dodge AWB sedan was an "all original unmolested car" up until recently, that is before someone decided to restore it.

Is this 65 Dodge AWB hardtop one of the original's that was repainted, or was it built by a privateer because it looks like
this could be the ex-Landy car, notice the blue side glass and small vent holes drilled into the top of the quarter glass!

Here's a couple 65 Plymouth AWB sedan's, anyone know the stories on these cars, or if they're still around.

Missile VII as it currently sits. Need to get the motor & trans done and finish up the interior.

The "Sites Bros" AWB otherwise known as "Misourri Mule" has been adressed in other areas of the moparts forum. Search for Misourri Mule or Sled City. Larry Augustine has some of the remains of the car. The body shell from that car was sliced off and dropped on a pro-mod style chassis. The rest of the Misourri Mule got rebodied with a Dodge shell.

As for the UFO, I have heard it is still around in some form, but don't know it's exact whereabouts or condition.

Topside, how many pieces of the real Melrose Missile are actually in that car? Doors, dashboard, wheels, and some other parts if I remember and/or was informed correctly?

The "Up Up&Away" Dodge was indeed the Landy car after it's Landy (original) and Studio Dodge (second owner) days. I've heard that the car was pretty solid and unmolested when it was finally located and positively ID'd as Landy's car (in the 1990s I think?).

Makes me wonder a little. The car was a twisted/fatigued/sagging/poorly aligned mess by the time Landy was finished with it, and ya have to consider the fact that the original 10/15 relocation cars were far from pretty, with shoddy bodwork (due to the chemically milled and THIN body shells) even when originally received by the racers.

The Studio Dodge and Up Up&Away versions of the car appear to be much tighter and straighter than the car ever was while Landy ran it, and those versions of the car were in the 60's even.

Just my observations though. Coulda been as simple as Landy and his crew never bothered to align the doors properly and they made the body look more twisted/sloppy than it actually was. Maybe a simple door/fender gap alignment was all that was needed to make the car look much better.

Landy said he took a extra step and had his car neutralized after the acid dipping process which should have helped his car being preserved better than some of the others.

I swear he said he also weighed them and picked one of the heavier cars so it would be stronger and not as thin as the others

Also the Mr. Norm AFX car was wrecked and parted out after a late night run near the shop.

Neighbors were calling the police thinking it was a plane, spaceship, or something from outer space because of the parachute

PrimerKing, the Missile's tub was pretty much junk, but Cecil saved everything he could unbolt & re-use.
The dipping process left stuff in the nooks & crannies and most of the cars continually disintegrated, and the amount of power and fairly weak, uncaged structures didn't help. Photos of the cars back then clearly show the Commandos car with buckled quarters and Landy's rt door & quarter misaligned, as well as the quarters drooping. Could be that some of the Amblewagon cars were dipped more aggressively than others, but none of the tubs would be easy to restore; little is said about that. I've heard Lee Smith's car was a nightmare to restore, as he & Cecil are friends. The cars were not intended to last 45 years.

SSAAHemifan, you sure about the Mr. Norm car crashing near the shop? I have a pic (which I cannot post) of the car sitting in the shop surrounded by other (much later cars) like the metalflake Mini-Charger. So Norm had it well into 1968 atleast. The engine or atleast the top end of it was out of the car and it looks like the hood/right front fender were off?

I believe you might be confused with the story about the California Flash. That car was eventually owned by Mr. Norm and crashed on the street with 1 of the shop employees behind the wheel. I haven't seen pics of it or anything, but heard it was a real mess and a total writeoff.
