should the temp sender have that much paint on it ?

and you better put some clamps on them there hoses to help prevent any leaks.

ps - hose and clip is enroute

Bill, I've had mixed answers when asking about the paint on the temp sender, so I took a shot at it. Is it correct????.

Clamps...oh yeah, I have those worm drive clamps here some where LOL.

Thanks for the hose and clip. I'll get you some pictures when I get a little close to having the car done.

Dan

I can't answer that with any real confidence, thus why I asked . I've just in the past few years started paying more attention to the earlier cars. Just never really got into them as much as the 69-70 cars and I don't remember them having the sender almost entirely covered like you have. But I'm following along and learning here.

I helped on a local friends 66 Hemi satellite 3 or 4 years ago and the body style had me hooked and I would actually like to have one,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, someday.

Looks great Dan. The only things I see beside what has been stated already, and this is getting nickle/dime, there usually is a small amount of overspray on the valve covers right at the base. The engines were painted with the valve covers on and the taping off was hit and miss. The plug wires may also have paint marks slopped on them. Carb ID tags? When is it going in? Drop me a line to let me know how things are going. Holgar

Hi Holgar, I just couldn't bring my self to paint the valve covers and carbs on the engine, I know I should have...
I need to get a set of good carb tags, I see Scott has some nice ones.
Give you a call later in the week

Oh, and BTW. If you didn't see my other thread, the paint you gave me for this engine was a hit!!. Nice job.

Dan.

On the temp senders, I don't have proof that this is the case but based on old originals I've seen were bare with no traces of engine paint. My assumption would be that they were either installed after paint, or taped off when they were painted.

The rear vacuum port fitting was installed after paint, the hole was roughly masked off with a piece of masking tape, the manifold would be void of paint accross the hole entending past the hole some distance where the tape covered it while being painted. I would guess the the temo sender was a similar case.

Those spark plug wire holders on the valve covers are obviously repro's because they are too white. The oil dip stick spear covering is too white also. Originally it was a pretty creamish looking white. You are missing the embossed "M" on your oil filter. I can't quite tell in your picture, but it is a common mistake I see is that the nut on the PVC is supposed to be a solid one. A lot of people use a stamped one by mistake. I have never seen that strap on the choke, so I wouldn't ever put one on. They did have a piece of tape over the choke cap originally so that I would do. It is quite common to find traces of orange paint on the valve cover edges and the plug wires as others have stated. Otherwise, it looks superb!

Yes you are correct, plug wire holders are repos . I have some nos ones, they are also 2 different colors. Do you know if anyone has a reproduction that looks right?
I agree on the dipstick as well, again, does anyone offer a correct one? I'm not wanting to pay NOS prices.
My oil filter has a big N for NAPA on it LOL! I'll change it out after I get a few miles on it.

The nut on the PCV is the one that came with it. I didn't know it wasn't right. Does anyone make the correct one?

Thanks for the help!!

Dan.

I think the back of the intake was done like this.

Right, that's basically it. I'm not sure how the exhaust heat tube hole was masked but I'm pretty sure it was to allow for the tube and gasket to get a good clean seal once installed.

Here is a sample survivor pic of an intake (71 in this case, all years were masked the same basic way). You can see where a ghost line appears where the tag end of the tape strip was.

The tape witness lines were easier to see in person, I outlined it here.

I'm not fond of carbs that appear to have been bead blasted (or is it bright flash).
Another post above touched on some of the components may have missed the mark with incorrect finishes.
I'm not an expert on carbs but I don't think all the components are cad finished.
Are you going oem stock?

I am not sure if the carbs were bead blasted. They were done about 4-5 years ago by Jerry Schmidt, probably OK for that time but not by todays standards.
I don't know if the car will ever be judged, but I want to do as much the right way as I can.

Thanks
Dan

Could anyone post a picture of the routing of the hot air tube from the exhaust manifold to the choke. Does it go over or under the Intake heat tube?

Dan.
