this is true, I guess that makes my 78 d150 factory 440 truck even more rare. I have seen 2 in the junk yards in the last 2 years. It will make tham worth a lot more.

Gee, does that make my '76 1/2 ton factory 440 shortbox truck worth more than the $1100 I gave for it in 1996?? :P I've seen and heard of SO many shortbox 440 trucks I have a hard time believing that they are at all rare...unusual yes, rare no...

it all depends if your truck is a 2 wheel drive or a 4 wheel drive. hte numbers for the 2wd 440 trucks in 1976 is 121 units(both short bed and long bed total). I myself have 2 1976 d100 short bed 440 trucks, 1 is adventurer se loaded white, and 1 is a custom that is fairly loaded metalic brown. I know that they are rare according to the book the Galen Govier printed up back in 1998.

plus, it has to have the "D" in the 5th position of the VIN number to be the real deal. I guess 1100 would be cheap for a nice complete orignal truck, but if it isn't complete or it is way rough, then 1100 would be average then.

I have to agree with you Sam, 2wd versus 4wd, there is no comparing, the #'s aren't even close

is there anything special about it? are there any stripes or decals that have faded away. do you have any paperwork. would be nice to have documentation regarding it's history. where was it sold new. i hope i don't sound like an a$$, i'm very curious about it's history, cuz it would be neat to find another regional type truck

Well, it is definately a 440 truck! As macho said, do you have any past info on the truck at all, that will make it worth more in the long run.

You can't see from the pics, but it has ORANGE decals instead of gold or white(except the tailgate DODGE decal is gold). The truck as you see in the pic is original, including engine (other than rims which last owner painted white instead of leaving gold). The missing items, according to the second owner, are the steps, wood sides, original seats (now has some ugly race buckets) and tuff wheel. He used it to 4 wheel on mountain trails , so changed some items and threw away what he decided wasn't worth keeping. I'm workin on getting some more documentation from the original owner, which I'll post as soon as I get it (hopefully sometime soon... he's a pretty old guy). Apparently, these are from the Southeast dealers only, but there are no production figures available (what a shock). From research, they only came with 440s (unknown how reliable the source is).

My question is, and for give me for feeling stupid,lol, is why are there so many variations of the dodge truck, mainly from region to region, mainly 76-80, different packages , because of climate.....thanks Ric

Dodge Truck Division was competing for the truck market, which was the least restricted (emissions mainly), and last, performance vehicles of that era. Unfortunately, Dodge was mainly interested in selling trucks, rather than keeping track of dealers (which is evidenced by Dodge's lack of archival information for their trucks. Production numbers for any performance truck other than LRE are unavailable). In fact, Dodge still disputes the fact that they offered Warlocks in 1976, and maintains they didn't officially offer them until 1977 (which may be true since they were dealer optioned). So, you actually find very few of the special performance trucks with adequate documentation to prove this is what they were (Warlock, Midnight Express, Orange Blossom, etc.). In other words, certain dealers came up with some neat ideas that weren't really restricted, or backed fully, by Dodge. Hope this helps.
