Given that both carbs were used on '69 D23 H51 RM's, my original contribution to this discussion was my thought on what would "seal the deal" regarding a factory Holley install. I was just offering the N88 as a possibilty...as usual, I probably could have worded it better...

It would be nice to see pics of survivors with N88 and observe the carb type, linkage, etc. They are just so darn rare!

I would think that the profile of a cruise control buyer would also be getting A/C also, so I wouldn't be surprised to learn the majority of cruise cars also had air.

There were two main factors that determined how the engine was assembled: A/C and transmission. This would dictate which carb the car recieved. Application also played a part. Speed control could be adapted to any automatic car.

The 897 (manual) and 899 (automatic) engine assembly A/C cars, with the exception of the odd one Dan posted, were 330 horse versions with Holleys. These assemblies could come in any 69 B body. The evidence indicates there was a change to an AVS on this assembly at some point but further research would have to be done to determine when there was a switch from a Holley to an AVS and how long the 899 engine cars came with an AVS.

The 925 (manual) and 926 (automatic) 383-HP 335 horse applications (found in non A/C Road Runners, Super Bees and non A/C four speed Chargers, Belvederes and Coronets) came with AVS carbs.

The 900 assembly (330 horse automatic no A/C) that came in Chargers, Belvederes and Coronets came with Holleys.

Dan, you have the 383 C body assembly (basically, the same assembly as a B body but with different exhaust manifolds). As the other Dan said, there was no 335HP variant available for the C body like there was for the B body. C bodies only got the 330 horse version with the Holley.

So the general answer to the original quesion is:

HP 335 horse cars got the AVS
LP 330 horse engines got the Holley.

(Caution: broad sweeping generalizations apply. Changes could and were made during the production year. Finding one or two examples contrary to the general rule does not necessarily invalidate 'general rules'. Consult your BS for your specific car. Other years are different. In 1974, when I bought my first car (69 Road Runner), the carb went bad and I went to buy a new one, the replacement, or so I was told at the dealer, was a Holley carb. That's what they gave me. Now I did see plenty of 71's come from the factory with a Holley. I'm sure that many earlier ones had Holleys as replacements in the years after they were bought. My 71 GTX, 440 4bbl, was definately a Carter from the factory. My 71 Road Runner, had a Holley from the factory.
