I had the vent window track rechromed and now I am trying to install the glass. There appears to be no aftermarket seal available to fit into the track. I am trying to figure out how to reattach the glass into the track.

I tried the innertube procedure from Sandysgarage.com but that did not work.

Can anyone tell me how you have secured the vent glass into the track?

Thank You,
Bob

Bob,....most find out how big that gap is when it removed for chroming, which usually destroys the black hard plastic seal,....I usually just use black windshield aycrlic/ureathhane windshied adhesive,..do not use silicone, or cheap tube sealers, spend the money for a caulking tube of windshiel adhesive, put a good bead in the groove, install the glass, proping it up vertically to dry, leave it for a few days to really set up, before subjecting it to use/installation, center the glass in the channel, side to side, so you have an even bead/gap on each side of the vent glass,...Mine have been in for over 5 years, you wouldn't know looking at them, that it's adhesive, no problems/issuses with use

Honestly mine didn't slide in I hammered it in with a rubber mallet. Not the smartest thing I've ever done but that's how I did it on my 67 Coronet. I switched out the frames and the pitfree pivots had clear glass that needed to be changed. The was relief when I finished but it was the only way I could think to get it done.

The proper stuff is glass setting tape. it comes in rolls and has sticky glue on both sides.
fold it over the glass and insert into the vent frame..light tappin with a wood mallet to seat..

here is the OEM manufacturer.

I stopped at one of the local glass stores, that does commercial, custom showers etc... They gave me a couple feet of this product, FWIW.

there are many different thicknesses so you might want to get a couple of different lengths of the different thickness materials at your local glass shop..

I have glass setting tape available. (not on my online store yet).

I go on the thicker side; it's easily thinned out by stretching it length-wise.
The trick is to get your glass fitting snug, then coat the tape on both sides with clean engine oil.
Slide the glass into place and tape it to hold the trim in place overnight.
By morning, the setting tape expands and the glass will be nice & tight. Finish by trimming the edges with a new razor blade.
Works like a charm...

Releasing glass with old tape is done by soaking with gasoline.

Don't use urethane window sealer... makes it a nightmare to remove later and doesn't have the correct look, if that's a concern.

I finally got to use the tape you sent me and it worked awesome. I can't thank you enough for this info.

Thank You,
Bob
