That looks identical to my old Fury.

Oh and I liked the pic of my polara that you posted earlier. I'd never seen that one before; that was when Charlie owned it.

Here are a few for tonight. Everyone has been posting some great stuff. I've never seen many of these cars.

Here is a question:

Who was the first to have a car that would eventually be called a Nostalgia Super Stocker?

Maybe the Arlen Vanke Ol' Brownie '63 Plymouth or the Living Legend '63 409 Chevy?

The first N/SS race I ran at was Milan Mi July 1992. The cars I remember being there were Ron Eros 64 Belvedere,Paul Suloff driving the "Old Brownie" clone,Rick Johnsons "No Sponser" 62 Grand Prix Paul Adams "Fountain of Youth" Fairlane. Our Lickity Split 63 Polara was not lettered yet. It was all heads up then. I believe the second race was at Martin MI. Most cars were running high 10/ low 11 second range as I remember.

Jody and others, great site. I love em all too. The "Hang em High" car was owned by Allen Obenchain. He also ran a '64 red Dodge with white diamonds all over it. It was called Jack Of Diamonds. Allen passed away a few years ago. I met his son Ben at Beaver a few years ago. They were trying to sell the AWB car to help with finances. I haven't seen nor heard from him since. Allen was a good racer, and an even better guy. TD

What happened to the "Gun Smoke" Plymouth? Emedio DeMarco used to run it. He sold it roughly five years ago, and I haven't seen it since.

Swingin',

Unfortunately, NSS years stop at '68 in most clubs. The class was originally designed for cars that were originally big block powered with dual quads. Some organizations have loosened up their program to promote car count, but most still stop at '68. I'm sure someone has a rule book from the old NSCA or NMCA that dictates the eligible cars for the class. Great car, not NSS though. Tom

Tommy's right. They do make some exceptions for factory produced SS package cars, like Hemi Darts/Cudas; AMX; and CJ's, but most do stop at 68.

Although I totally understand how this upsets some folks, I do understand why they do hold fast and stick to this. They are under constant pressure to make exceptions, especially to smallblock Camaros and the like, but the mindset is that if you do that then you turn it into just another bracket race, and it loses its uniqueness.

Tommy, by the way, great write up in Muscle Car Review!!

Thanks Steve. I talked to the guys from 422 Motorsports. They had Nine cars at the Oaks, PA Motorsport Show on display. They are bringing on more sponsors this year, and the purse will increase significantly. Hopefully you and many others will come race with us. Last year we averaged somewhere around 30 cars per event. Usually it was the same 20 or so regulars, plus some locals from the area where we were racing. I know there are people that aren't fans of the 422 guys or the organization, but I encourage you to give it a try. There are a ton of good people (racers as well as fans) at every event. The mood is light, and the competition is good, and the N/SS cars are great. Fast or slow, there's a place for you in N/SS...the best class ever conceived.

Keep the pictures coming. I'm loving every one, especially the ones I haven't seen before. I'm trying to figure out how to shrink the size of my saved pictures so I can contribute. Any help is greatly appreciated. TD

Tommy, Ronnie, Kyle and I intend to attend as many of the events as are within reasonable driving distance for us. Those include of course the Beaver, Numidia, MG, and Mason Dixon, maybe a couple of others.

We had some cars on display at the Pittsburgh World of Wheels this past weekend and we talked the circuit up very hard. We have even been pushing Pittsburgh Raceway Management to get a hold of Dink to see if something could be worked out....it would be a big hit in western Pa.

The best class ever concieved.....absolutely and positively.

Wow, I didn't know Allen passed away. He was a great guy and we raced together quite a bit back in the mid '90s when he was racing the red car with the diamonds. He was always good to talk with at the track. Thanks for the info Tommy.

I, too, am very sorry to hear that. I only spoke to him a few times, but was impressed.

He was not very old, as I recall.

Steve,

If you need to get in touch with Dink, PM me. I'll give you his number. I'm sure he'd be interested if there are no conflicts. It's amazing looking at this site, how many N/SS cars are in our area. If we could all get our stuff together, we could have races with nearly one hundred cars in attendence. It would be great to see. Beaver's Nostalgia Nats, and Atco's N/SS Spectacular are the biggest races I've run. They're all fun though. TD

Haha doubt it. This actually brings up a good point though..The driver should be a machine. He/she shouldn't have any effect on the performance of the car. Finding what shift points, burnout procedure, etc., works, is a question of tuning not driving. The driver needs to be able to do exactly what is called for in these tuning procedures and do it every time.
