What are the pros and cons of 10 dregree locks verses 7 degree locks. Thanks.
If you run high spring pressures you need the 10*, the 7* can pull through.... I myself dont see any down side to the 10*... JMO ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif)

the down side to 10 degree is that it uses a greater percentage of the lock groove to hold the system in place,, there is "wedging" of the locks into the valve stem which assits in holding it all in place,, super 7, which is 8 degree wedges the lock into the stem more and puts less stress on the lock groove,,, most applications 10 degree is fine

So what would have been stock ... 7 or 10 ??
When I measured them (stock), they appear to be 7*

10 degree retainers are weaker than super 7's. If you cut through a 10* retainer you'll see there's less material in some critical areas than a 7 degree retainer. Does this affect most of our builds? Not very likely. Takes some pretty serious springs to need to worry about the strength of a 10* retainer.
I know that the engine guys I have dealt with said to use 10* so I did based on their info... my springs are a little over 900# at lift, I've had them out a couple of times to check spring pressures and the retainers and locks looked fine, they have been on for about 5 years(4 years racing) ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif)

don't confuse 7 degree locks and retainers with SUPER 7's, they're not the same. i won't run a standard 7 degree lock on anything. i've seen too many 7 degree locks pull through the retainers over time with only 330 lb springs. i use super 7's occassionally. most stuff gets 10 degree, especially when running the "typical" roller spring pressures whether that's 600 lbs, or up to 1400 lbs. make sure to choose the right material for the retainers for your application also.

I didnt do it that way but I measured the height of the keepers in relationship to the retainers... I did this because I was concerned with the pressures and pulling through ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif)

Super seven's grip the valve stem more postively, than a ten degree. I have ran both and closely montiored the valve lock wear and fragmentation over time. I have cracked tens, but never a seven. The seven's are clearly superior. Also, this is the keeper arrangement of choice for NASCAR cup cars.
