... I whittled it with a pocket knife.
Great! I stopped thinking about that assuming I'm not Michelangelo enough to do it right. But may be there is enough winter left to do a try...
So you did copy the "old" ones simply with "your eyes" - means cutting away whatever did not look like a pistol grip? Comparing and comparing... that way?
yea, pretty much all by eye.
the only thing I did do was make a paper template of the base, the flat part that goes against the handle, that way I had the right dimensions to fit the metal handle, once I had the basic shape transfered to the square block of wood, I just started trimming away.
my "thumb ledge" for lack of a better term, on the left grip isn't as sharp as the ones Domino made, I suppose I could sand it down and work at it some more, but I'm happy with it how it is really.
to finish it, I lightly misted the wood with dupont paint, the same color as the body color on my truck, --just enough to give it some color without hiding the grains in the wood--then clear coat over that.
Total time it took me was probably 5 or 6 hours, so $140 is a steal of a price! --of course, it looks like Domino's got more "professional" tools than a pocket knife, and has practice, he could probably knock a set out pretty quick compared to how long it took me!

So please all parties interested, please post with your choice of grips and if there are enough orders to make it worthwhile I will make em. Choose: Flamed maple....with flamed maple you can choose to have em painted any color, even high impact colors. Oak: The only finish available is the one shown on the pics above. Pau Ferro: Hand rubbed oil finish. These are nice and very similar to the woodgrain on the rallye dashes and center console on the E Bodies. Price is $140 for each set of grips. Incl Shipping. okput me up on 1 set off the satin OAK type please mr d.

Domingo are you making the grips or acting as a distributor for the maker ? If you are making them it does make it easier for us to communicate our needs etc without any confusion. I like dealing with the folks making parts much better. I would have a problem paying with a credit card for goods in South America ,so will this be pay pal or money order upon recent of the product ? Would you do a 10 % off for 2 sets, if so I'll take 2 sets of OAK SATIN. Those grips are nice.
I still want to order 2 sets of OAK SATIN.

My buddy who is a custom guitar luthier makes em.
Payment would be via pay pal.
Sorry it'd be a fixed price...this is a small run I dont stock any all would be custom ordered. One time deal only....I really dont make em any more because they are really not worth it (business wise) but I am willing to make em for those who missed the boat and would like a set.
They are NICE and I can tell you no other wooden grips sold out there even start to compare with these. These are on a league of theur own. My buddy is a gifted individual when it comes to woodworking and finishes.

Also is the grip in post #8 from Sycboi Pau Ferro?
No, the South American Pau Ferro is similar in grain and pattern as Sycboi (which is a Phillipines species), but the PF is more deeply hued and slightly more reddish like cedar, I've had the two side by side, the PF is WAY prettier.

Thank You. Does anyone have a pic of a grip made of the South American species?

I made my own a couple years ago out of oak to match the vintage steering wheel I had. After tracing a pattern onto the wood, I used a right angle air powered die grinder to rough them in then finish sanded, stained and cleared them. It took a little time, but if you have a die grinder and some roloc discs a lot of you can do it yourselves, I think.
