I have looked for more info on this car and always come up empty handed except for a couple black and white photos and an ertl model.

Was this car just used for the clinics, actually raced?

I would love to make a clone of that car.

HEMIFRED in the race section has a ton of Sox and Martin pictures and information. He also has one of their cars.

Wasn't there a die cast or a model of that car?

Yes, there have been a few model cars over the years. Just don't know if the car ever competed

I remember one newspaper article about Jake King at a clinic and he had that car there, it was Hemi powered. Maybe Jake drove it!

The only vintage 71-72 Plymouth B-body race car I can think of is Don Grotheer's.

So did Don compete with the only 71-72 in the Nation?

Nice, thank you! Someone with a die cast model says it was raced in A/MP...

no scoop in that color pic? Did the car change over time or was there more than one?

Number One's Number Two
uses many Mopar Stock parts,
but Ronnie Sox (or McCandless) drives and Jake King built the engine -
and that says everything!

Some racers are sick of seeing this team in the winner's circle, but
Sox and Martin have earned every bit of their prizes (and knowledge)

Plymouth's popular Roadrunner was another one of those sure things that the boys from Chrysler have cranked out with the past years. The Roadrunner, past and present, has carried Petty, Grotheer, Goldsmith, Sox and Martin and a host of others to the victory circle.

This Roadrunner, style three, has been “Sox and Martinized??? and made race-ready for the B/Modified Production wars. The machine pictured here, is the new replacement for the ’70 Super Bird that Sox, McCandless and Joe Fisher campaigned in the modified wars last season. The Bird is also used a clinic car, along with a GT-2 Duster, and Sox’s winning Cuda.

There's more reason than mere beauty for white underhood area. Like for summer bashes.

The “bird??? has had the best of everything including a lot of TLC. Jake King, Joe Fisher and Dave Christie have converted the Roadrunner into a storming, ten-second machine.

This is not the first Mopar to carry "juice" in the trunk a la '65 A/FX'ers.
</CENTER>

A Jake King-prepped 426 rests in the bird’s nest, using a specially made Sox and Martin IR induction system that’s fed by two 1150 Holleys. Stock, steel heads are used with a pair of hooker headers. Stock Hemi rods are also used with TRW pistons and stainless rings. The team chose a Cam Craft (stock Mopar High Performance) 590 cam and also a stock, Hemi crank. A Sox and Martin nine-quart oil pan is utilized and 40-weight Valvoline oil is circulated though a Milodon pump and Fram filter. A Prestolite distributor and Champion N-64Y plugs get the whole thing going.

At the heart of every winning Sox and Martin super car is an ultra-tuff, Jake King Hemi.

Drivers, Sox or Herb McCandless row the Chrysler four-speed which is equipped with a Hurst shifter and Line-Loc. A stock Mopar clutch and pressure plate are used. Stuart Warner gauges keep both drivers informed about what’s happening.

S-W instruments and Hurst equipment keep both drivers informed, going.
</CENTER>

The suspension on the Roadrunner has received a set of Hurst variable shocks and a Soc and Martin pinion snubber. The Dana rear carries a 5.13 gear and spins a pair of Keystone mags mounted with a pair of 12.25x13x15 inch Firestones.

Firestone neato Drag 500's bring up the fully-prepped, leaf spring rear. Keystone wheels and super leafs are used.

Sox and Martin’s standard red, white and blue paint was applied by Red Gibson of Burlington, N.C. and the car was lettered by Carl Clayton.

This “tuna fish??? front is bound to become famous when piloted by S-M.

Offically the Roadrunner has noted a 10.50 et at 130.00 mph. IT looks as though Plymouth’s Comin’ Through again… this time, in the modified classes!

This has to be about the ultimate intake manifold. Steel heads and basically stock, Chrysler Prestolite distributor provides wins.

There's an article somewhere about that with a photo.

"Tuna Fish front end", that's the first time I've ever heard anyone refer to the front end like that before, lol.

I've always liked that body-style and thought that the Sox & Martin 71 Roadrunner looked really good!

Can we expect it to see the light of day anytime soon, condition?

Also are we talking about one car...or more than one?
