Not sure if A-1 (Marv Ripes) is still in business... they used to make a pretty good converter.
I have an 8" A-1 in my dartsport built by Marv Ripes which I bought last year. The car launches like a scalded cat,I also drive the car on the street. I called A-1 recently & was told that Marv has retired.

Just went through that experience. what I did was the same thing that you are doing. Went on the internet, asked, read up etc. then went to those "recommended" companies websites, and filled out THEIR specs form. In the comments box, I said that I was going to be purchasing a new convertor, and wanted to know what their recommendation was, and how much. I figured that i would get a good idea of what the experts suggested would work for me, and a ball park price, all so that I could make a reasonable intelligent decision. Well, I was wrong! The ONLY one that was interested in my business was HUGHES. They got right back to me with an e-mail and a phone call, and at least they expressed an interest in me, and my car. NONE of the others showed any interest, One sent me a form letter, stating that they would get back to me, that would be Neil chance, and the others, including Ultimate, Coan etc. did not even bother with a reply. I did talk to A-1,on the phone, he wanted the order, but was not interested in my cars specs, until I brought that subject up. Needless to say that raised a big ol red flag. So, I just spent $1400.00 with Hughes, at least they made me feel like my business was important to them. Naturally i would recommend that you at least talk to them, and give them a shot at your business. they earned mine.
Hi, I have to apologize. We have been in the process of relocating our business and home from Ct. to N.C from the end of Nov. and we are now up and running here in N.C at our new facility. During the move, being as hectic and stressful as it was, I may have missed a few call backs and emails during the move, and for that I apologize to any that I may have incovenienced. We are now in full swing in our new place(Jan 4) and if I can help in any way, feel free to call or email and I will get back to you.

Thanks for all the replies guys....
Do you think I can just buy a cheaper off the shelf converter rather than a custom made unit for my combo?
If so which one would you buy?
I was hoping to get it through summit or something to take advantege of the 10% off sale.
Good or bad idea?
Domingo, if your not going to be doing any serious racing you can get away with an off the shelf converter with no problem. you may give up a little ET and being consistent. we just changed a friends 10" for an 8" race piece. he only picked up .09 almost a tenth. but he gained a piece of mind not have to be worring about it coming apart and hopefully making it more consistent. so Yes you can use one
