I called up Hughes today to talk about a new race cam . The guy i spoke with was super cool and it was great talking with him. Cant remember his name ... ( sorry sir ! ) We talked about parts for around 6 or 7 minutes and it was a pleasure. Very helpful , and I was pleasantly surprised that the cam I picked out was the same one he recommended. I will be spending my $$ there this winter - seems like a great mopar company !

You going to get a lot of responses from guys who don't like Hughes. Lots of bad blood from years back between them and moparts members. They made some pretty poor choice comments towards quite a few highly regarded members of this board. I personally wont spend there. I'm glad you haven't experienced the same treatment, and hopefully it works out for you.

I will say the same about INDY .
They will never get a penny of my money and Im glad there are alternative pieces out there now ( Edelbrock victors , Hughes , B1 , World , Keith black , Koleno , 440Source, etc.. )
"When" I hit the lottery... you will not see an Indy part on my car.

I love how this BS keeps getting dredged up and how the internet rumor squad puts their little twist on what actually was said in a private forum most had no access to during the build ... Hughes' cams DID NOT get blamed, one highly respected member of this board, and member of the team, put the word BAD and HUGHES in the same sentence ... and not tied together ... and the dogpilers ran with it , NO ONE on the team BLAMED HUGHES. As far as the builders LACK OF KNOWLEDGE , The only lack of knowledge was from not actually talking to Dave personally ... Everything went threw ME because I was the Project Manager ... and not having run a Hughes HTL Solid in the past since it was a fairly new Cam on the market. A lot of this internet RUMOR DOGPILING BS is what caused the riff between Hughes and some team members, aside from Dave's ego ... ... If anyone is to blame it was ME for not taking Dave serious enough on having the lifter bores BUSHED which would have required me to go over the builders head because he was on vacation and I was unable to contact him and thus I would have had to go over the builders head on it which i didn't think was a good idea partly because there was not time nor a shop close enough to where the engine was being assembled to have the job done with CONFIDENCE. I'll say this , if Dave TELLS YOU TO DO SOMETHING ... DO IT ... do it or you'll feel his wrath There is no reason to muddy this thread with anymore HEARSAY ...

As most everybody here knows, I used to work for Dave. (Before that project) Dave is a sharp guy whether you agree with him or not.....or like him. I look up to people who are smarter than me, in spite of anybody else's opinion of them. I still talk to him on occasion and consider the time I spent there as one of the best experiences of my life.

That's why my Indy-1 are on the shelf and I ported a set of 915's myself!
The 915's even out run the -1's really makes the 500" stroker Indy-1 users scratch their head

Not trying to muddy this thread. Just pointing out that the builder overlooked the lifter bore problem. (I would call that lack of knowledge you call it what you want)
And Hughes cam performed well in the contest.
Hughes is still in business and continues to test, develope and build parts for the mopar community.
What makes YOU THINK there was a lifter bore problem ?? I don't remember you being part of the EM team ...
Yes Hughes is still in business, so are the business owners that DONATED their TIME and expertise to see the project made it to the contest.
I don't have an axe to grind with Hughes, but it seems you do with those involved in something you were not part of ?

we ran hughes engine Hydralic cams for 6-7 years in IMCA dirt track motors with a lot of success and alays spoke to Dave about what we needed more out of the corner and more straight away speed and we always listened to what we needed. He would say to check stuff and make sure and always check just to make sure e didnt miss anything. The last 3 years won 3 championships and won 30 out of 61 races. The times that Dave was not in I spoke with I believe his name was Kevin.
70 Duster W8 motor. 1.29 60ft 5.79 1/8 at 120 mph glide with 1.80 gear @3170 lbs.

How about the best of moparts archive page 9 (engine masters) People who helped out in the build said it was the lifter bores and that bushing them fixed the issue
So in reality YOU (em team) made ME THINK it was a lifter bore issue
You can go back and read the whole saga if you would like. Or I could go back and Quote everybody and paste it for you.
A member gets on here to give Hughes a and right away triple threat throws in the EM debacle and a negative . According to YOU Hughes informed you about the lifter bores from the beginning. So aparently Hughes was trying to be helpful and informative but some didn't care to listen.
I have no axe to grind with anyone, I thought the EM motor made great power and was a success.
I personally have bought and delt with people involved in the EM build and Hughes. All were informative and good to deal with.
it's unfortunate that you don't really know many (if any) of the actual details but are quick to lay blame. only those "directly involved" know the whole truth and nothing but the truth. i also think the personal insults you levied are completely uncalled for and completely biased.
