I dont see the wires running exactly like the ones with the mannys

how is all the wires on the drive side going to go behind the tubes? they angle back to the side of block to clear the frame

same on pass side..the #8 will drop behind the head,but how are the 2,4,6 goona fit behind the tubes of the header?

main reason I went with 2 center dump mannys,2 in back of head and 2 in front of head on both sides with all 90* boots

I will have to study the pics more..but I dont see them working with headers the same as the HP mannys sparky posted

I have to agree with Mike, the headers cut back towards the block, so there's not as much room as there appears. I could be wrong. Who knows. Attached is a pic of how I would like to run the wires. Rick, let me know if we can do something like that.

About the spark plugs, does Champion make a short header plug to fit the 5/8 452 heads? I prefer using Champions, but would also consider using Autolites. Are the short header plugs available? Anyone have any part numbers? Would be appreciated!

Landon, I'm sure you've heard this before, but loose that air cleaner!!!!! Gas and fumes from the carb will splash up and eat up the foam, which then gets sucked up in the engine. Been there, done that! I know it's cheap and kinda cool looking, but it's not worth the money you spent on your motor!

Had to comment on not seeing anything covering the top of the carb while on the stand. We destroyed an expensive Pontiac Superstock motor 20 years ago because a magnetic screwdriver bit fell down in there, and upon startup, it ran for about 10 seconds, and stopped very quick. The bit had jammed itself between the piston and the cylinder wall. Don't want anyone else to ever go through that.

Won't be a problem on this one...nothing is bolted on. In fact, at this moment, the carb is sitting on a shelf. The intake is just sitting on there, holding the belly pan in place, with masking tape over the port holes. I also peeled off the old masking tape over the exhaust ports when I set the headers on for the pics, then recovered with new tape when I was done. There is also a shop rag that is stuffed in the distributor hole. The only thing that really isn't "sealed up" is the water jackets around the water pump housing, which is just kinda held in place with a couple loose bolts. I know this probably isn't the best way to store an engine, but it's what I've got. I have pulled the plugs and shot some wd-40 inside and turned it over by hand. Probably wouldn't hurt to do that again.

I think if he got the short spark plugs it would work fine. 135 boots look like they are too long for 2 and 8 for sure. Even bending them to a 90 , they stick out 2 inches.Try finding the shorty spark plugs . Lets do it right the first time.Get the plugs and then take pics from the front, plug heigth.. We'll see.

Do you (or anybody else) have a recommendation for these shorty plugs? The kids in the local parts stores can barely handle a request for stock replacement parts. If I ask for something performance related, especially anything related to a Mopar, I'm afraid their heads may explode! I bet if I went in there with a part number they would still try to look up the application, but at least being armed with an actual part number, I'll get what I want.

Accel makes them for sure.I ran a set of headers like those for yesr.Ran the regular plugs with the Taylors and even a set of Morosos and had no problems.I did ding the tubes on a few a little to get more clearance.Rocky

Thanks Rocky. One thing I was just going to add is that these are the small 5/8 hex plug. I was just looking up plugs online and so far all I've found is the larger 13/16 hex for stock plugs. I'm pretty sure these won't fit, but that is all I'm finding a listing for. (I can see heads exploding already!) Part numbers would really be helpful!

+ONE one that POS air cleaner! One backfire and it is toast and everything falls down into the intake and cylinders. I USED to own one when I thought they were cool looking. Please don't be offended, just lose it. A factory air cleaner would be worlds ahead. Unless you maybe put a steel wool mat in there instead of foam, but no ...

Still looking for suggestions on these plugs. All the stock listings I can find for a 440 show 13/16 hex plugs. Mine has 5/8 hex. Will the 13/16 fit? The only shorty plugs I can find are Accel 13/16 hex. Are Accel plugs even any good? I could really use some help from those who know!

Bill, so do you think all 90's will work, however you route them? Like the routing of your yellow wires in the pic, are those all 90 degree boots? Looks good.

Hey Rick, yes the 90's will work fine. I would like to run them like I drew it in the pic with 90 boots. I'll have to figure out what to do for looms later on as I get closer to the swap. Can you fix me up?

This is my 383 based stroker with 4.25" crank, 440 Source aluminum heads and small hydraulic cam.
It gave 462 hp / 720 nm on dyno.
