OK GUYS,HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS

WHICH IS BETTER COOLING FOR THE STREET?WHICH HAS LAGER WATER JACKETS?

DOES WORLD BLOCK HAVE A PROVISION FOR A 1/2 STOCK STYLE OIL SUMP?

I KNOW THAT INDY BLOCK HAS TO BE DRILLED FOR hydraulic LIFTERS,HOW ABOUT THE WORLD?

DO THEY HAVE DIFFERENT OILING PASSAGES?WHICH IS BETTER?

ANY INFO WOULD HELP.....

I seem to remember the World block having a bolt in pickup tube, but I can't remember and the website doesn't say. When I was at Columbus I got to look at an Indy aluminum block practically right next to the World aluminum and I'd spend my money on the World block. Especially considering I wouldn't have to deal with the boys at Indy, and I'd end up with a better (IMO) block to boot.

Hello,

Both blocks have proven to cool on the street. The World block has a choice of pickup and 1/2" is one choice. It's a bolt in adapter as stated. The world does not need to be drilled for hydraulic lifters. I think the World block has some nice oiling features and choose it over the Indy also. Others can comment better on this.

I purchased the World block.

I looked at the Indy block, & made the decision (apart from the World block being cheaper & the people better to deal with) it is meant to have better oiling, especially as it relates to valvetrain, etc.
I still to start building the motor at present but it looks like a great block. I know Rich Nedbal on this forum has significant experience with both (MoparRich).

I have heard some people on this forum make comments that the block will need cleaning up (line hone, squaring decks, etc), as they are not perfect as you buy them , but I would expect anyone will check/ do this anyway as a matter of course.

Be good to hear from others regarding their experiences in the new block tolerances prep etc..?

to be honest the street/water aluminium block that "looked" the best, IMO, is the KB block, .. although

I do just not know enough about these or their real strengths/weaknesses OR if you can still get them.

I'd suggest the World aluminum block in a heart beat.

* If you buy a fully prepped block it comes with the lifters galleys ready to go and all the lifters are bronze bushed.
* The casting has been "bulged" around each bore to allow for more water flow.
* The oil to the top end is direct from the main oil galleys via restrictors (not the #4 cam journal). No better way to go.
* The internal oil pickup uses a separate flange so you don't spin the pickup on. You can make any internal pickup you want and them just bolt it on. The only consideration is the flange will not clear a big stroke so you'd have to go external with big strokes (4.35" +).
* Block is prepped for an external oil line input to the pump.
* 4 main caps (steel) are cross-bolted.
* Cylinder sleeves are pre-clearanced for up to a 4.5" stroke.

I just built two 572" Hemis using this block and I was amazed at how little work was required to the blocks. Decks were right on, as was the line hone and lifter angles.

Three cautions:
1) BOTH blocks came with the plugs installed and the goon doing that last step at World used waaaaay to much pipe sealant. There was sealant in the galleys! I had to brush and clean feverishly to get everything clean.
2) World enlarged and moved the water ports that feed the heads so you have to make sure your head gasket will work. Fel-Pros are no problem, but Cometic didn't make a gasket that worked until very recently. You have to ask Cometic specifically for this.
3) The four head studs that go into the valley area need to be longer. ARP makes an adapter set (ARP# 245-4312) for World blocks but if you didn't know this, and just bought a head stud set, you'd be surprised.

The first Hemi is for all out racing I didn't do anything to the block except clean it as stated and clearance in the timing cover area because the World casting hits the Jesel belt drive plate. No biggee.

The second Hemi used a normal timing chain and it went together with no machining what-so ever.

I also like the KB block, and I have built quite a few motors with these block before the World days, but they do require some machining to get perfect and there's no oil to the lifters unless you pay the extra $350 for gun drilling. The lifters are not bushed either.

Rich,
What aspect of the Cometic gasket is a problem? I have not yet fired this engine and did not catch the problem!

I just want to make a point that the Indy block also has all these options...\

You dont need clearance on the Indy block t fit a 4.5 stroke crank using a steel 2.2 rod.
All 5 mains are cross bolted on the Indy block.
It also has the Oil port by the timing chain cover...
My Indy block checked out, and needed no extra machine work to run.
My World Hemi block needs Line bored/honed to correct poor machine work.
There is good and bad in all of them.
Either block Im sure will do the job and handle the power no problem.
The Indy block is a tad lighter, the World block offers a GM bolt pattern, which would have been a great option with the Indy block, as I ran a Power Glide trans.
What ever you do get the block of your choice and have it finished in any number of good machinist, many right here on the board.
If i would have run my world block OOTB box it would have ran good for a few passes, very few.

But if your wanting the Best, the KB block hands down...and in the end there are NOT any more money, all said and done.

My World block needed the lifter bores honed, as they were too tight, and it needed to be line honed as well. All else was good.

World prices have dropped for some reason . 3495 direct from Bill Mitchell on ebay

From reading the Bill Mitchell (the engine shop) ebay store, he is clearing out some odd part number blocks, not all the blocks.

I saw this wedge block (alum, race):
Camshaft Location: raised +.250"
Lifter Bores: Std lifter size, Bronze bushings Spread .200"

And this Hemi block (alum, race):
Camshaft Location: raised +.250"
Lifter Bores: None

The World site says the blocks have Priority main oiling system. How is that done? I don't see a separate main bearing oil galley in this pic (like the Koleno blocks)

Nice motor mate I'm almost certain the KB block will take a stock sump (i've never tried one). Mine has a S/S milodon sump thats listed for a 440, I'm sure the bolt pattern is stock.

Look at the main water inlets at the top corners. The embossing on the earlier Cometic gaskets misaligned with the water holes so they had trouble sealing.

Also the rivets that hold the gasket together did not protrude enough to get past the block. This may not be a problem depending on the head that's used.

World blocks don't require supports welded in on the front cam journal. I don't know why Indy made it open on the front of the block

I'm gonna notch my block for the rivets
