I'm aware of Super Flow's Peak CFM x .257 x Number of Cylinder Formula
I'm not asking for formulas or theories. Basically, how much are you making and with how much flow.
So give your typical head flow, what your car weighs and quarter mile trap speed. (I'll use Moroso's Power/Speed calculator)
.100"_______65.1 .200"______129.6 .300"______187.4 .400"______234.5 .490"______254.1
Flow backs up over .490"
269º @ .050" .615" lift flat tappet cam.
Race weight of 2830 lbs. and trap speed of 124.73 MPH
425 HP
Here's mine
IN CFM ----------EX CFM .600 372 ---------- 277 .650 385 ---------- 281 .700 401 ---------- 286 .750 408 ---------- 290
Weight 2850 trap 151.58

I do see a trend here, concerning the air flow. The BIG engines get more power out of the air they have available.....typically.
Perhaps that is why they say, "There is no replacement for displacement"

Mabey the big engines are makeing more power because they are seeing increased airspeed through the port and mabey that is a better thing than we thought ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shruggy.gif) Also small block motors actually lose quite a bit of lift from the terible PR angles, I have ran cams with valve springs that mathmatically would not work but in reality work just fine. An example is my 360 in my cuda right now, it has a comp XE268 and GM V6 springs with the stock valve job and they weren't recessed so they should be in major coil bind based on IH and theortical valve lift but at max lift with a solid lifter I can still stick a .010 feeler gauge between every coil so I know my lift is not quite at the .512 is should be, mabey the other guys have not taken this into account and are not seeing the airflow they think they are. Another thing is the bigger the motor the more likely they are to use a newer head with a good chamber and ports with less dead areas... in a lot of instances the smaller motors are useing older open chamber heads... I am not ragging on any one but the more money you have to put in a motor the bigger it gets and the better parts it gets, but I will concur it is possible the bigger motors do just make more power from the same airflow but I just wanted to throw out some of my ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif)

A couple footnotes: 1. Head flow is really only valid if your induction system (carb and intake) exceed it in capacity....otherwise your HP /mph is limited by the "weakest link". eX: a lot of smallblocks running RPM's or AIR GAPs may ET better (due to more torque) but typically an M1/Victor or a ported strip dominator will make more (sometimes considerably more) peak HP at the flywheel, as always a lot depends on the gear ratios and weight which will work better overall. On the street I'd rather have the higher average torque even if the peak power suffer a tad but for my track cars I want every R of that peak power I can get, so I gear accordingly. 2. Chassis efficieny and converter slip accounts more to ET but naturally also impacts top end MPH. Shorthand for "Your results may vary" ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif) The good side is with a speed/et calculator and your chassis is at least whatever its "average factor" is....you might be able to say you're making "AT LEAST" that much power.

Don't forget to factor in weather and DA that day.

But this was a great day temp 59f DA 455 mine shaft air. Maybe this next season I can get more mph
