Again , the 360 was available from the start in 71. It was actually available in late 1970 as seen in some 1970 Polaras as an "experiment".

My source states the following 1971 Newport Royal production figures. However, it does not state how may were equipped with the standard 360 or one of the two optional 383's.

8500 2 dr HT, 19662 4 dr Sedan and 5188 4 dr HT.

To get off of the 360 debate and jump into a new one....
I will add I owned a 71 newport, and it had a CAST crank 383. (the block decoded to be orig to the car. It was a 383 2bbl)

Some will say they never existed, but much like the 360 C body, they definately did.

And yes like 73 sattelite, I have had people tell me it didn't exist even though I owned it. This was only 2 years ago, so it's not my memory failing.

It was the only Big block car, I ever parted out, that I didn't think the motor was worth taking.

In all fairness to the the doubters, it's the only one I've ever seen first hand.

But in the case of the doubters of the 360 in 71' so many were produced in 71' that its unimaginable anyone would think otherwise let alone debate the obvious.

The '71 360 in my Powerwagon came out of a C-body wagon that a friend of the family had owned for years!

Now for a real question:

I'd read in one of the rags a few years back that the first year or so had the 2.02 valves instead of the 1.88's. Is this true?

The engine was rebuilt by a shop (my dad owned it then) and I never got a chance to see the intake valves. All I know is it runs STRONG for being in a 5,600 lbs. truck!

Well, I believe the first 360 mopar I ever laid eyes on was in a 71 fury in like, 1972, so I would imagine a bare bones 71 newport should have one as option too.
