Has anyone installed a A/c vintage air II system in a Challenger? I was wondering how everything bolted up. If it was all even and nice or if a person had to drill some holes? Also if all the hoses came out from the air box evenly through the firewall?
Where did you install the A/c compressor as well? Under the altinator on the passenger side or up top in the original location?

I have a vintage air kit in my CUDA conv. Bolted right in and kit has block off plates for the cowl, they are black and I painted them body color. Car s not finished but A/C is 90% complete. Install is straightforward,no cutting, just 1 or 2 holes to drill. May be a little different if car was originally a non air car.Just make it VERY clear when ordering whether or not car is originally an A/C or non A/C. I was missing or had wrong parts when kit arrived but they swapped the parts with no hassel, very easy to work with. Also used Buochellion(sp?) brackets to mount compressor bellow alternator. No recent pics to post but remind me and I'll try and post new pics this week. Hope this helps.

Ok sounds like mine. Im trying to put the a/c compressor on the top and seems to work on a steel water pump housing but NOT a 440 Source aluminum Housing. Crash course for the thermostat housing. So Im at a stand Still. What motor and what water pump housing do you have Orininal steel or aluminum? How does the below bracket workout with it?

top ones steel and bottom is the aluminum. I have perfect clearence on the steel but cant even put the aluminum thermostat housing on the aluminum housing.

Really debating on purchasing the one to go under the altonator.

I have a HEMI crate motor. With compressor below alt. there are no clearance issues with water pump but fuel pump has to be removed and covered with block off plate (comes with bouchillion kit) and have to use elect. fuel pump.

I found out I had the steel a/c brackets not the aluminum brackets. and I already had the fuel shut off because I put a edlebrock pro flow fuel injection system. I should have put it below to make more room. Next rebuild haha

could you add a couple of the whole engine compartment. Yours looks very clean. I have a bunch of wires in mine with the fuel injection system. It adds a ton.

your first pic looks like your compressor is facing the wrong direction, is it on right?

YES I have it in a vice so it looks like its not right. I took the housing out of the car so I could see the entirerty of what was going on. I called Bouchillion Performance and the finally figured out that I had the wrong bracket. The right one is being sent to me to hopefully clear up this problem.

I recently installed a Vintage Air in a '73 Challenger recently (have not started the car yet.) This is a factory, non-AC, 340 small block car. The engineering and installation of the system, I rate as a 7 out of 10. I feel that the design of the plate used to cover the blower motor was somewhat marginal and could have been designed better. Had I know before hand, I would have welded up the blower motor hole and then cut new holes for a cleaner look. I ended up painting the supplied cover such as one of the other posters mentioned. Also, I deviated from drilling into the firewall to support the Vintage Air box and fabbed a bracket to provide this support.

My current issue involves clearance between the thermostat housing and the compressor. I'm using an Edelbrock Air Gap manifold with the supplied compressor bracket. This installs the compressor directly above the waterpump slightly offset towards the passenger side. Using this heavy duty bracket with the Air Gap manifold results in the thermostat housing to nearly contact the compressor. The clearance is so minimal, I cannot install the upper radiator hose without making contact with the compressor. Perhaps this is not a problem when using a low factory iron, manifold. I suspect most aftermarket manifolds will result in this problem as well. IMO a slight redesigned for those who are using a non-factory manifold would solve this problem.

It sounds like you are using a big block and this last issue may not apply. Perhaps others have encountered the same problems and I would be interested to hear what they did to solve this issue. I have various photos of the clearance issues if anyone is interested.
