Is it a miss or a stutter. If it acts like a slight stutter you may need more fuel or jet.

How much total timing? Have had problems with too much at high RPM.

I had the same problem in the spring. Threw lots of parts at it. The last one on the list was the magnetic pickup in the distributor. That fixed the problem for under $10.

6800 with a 7000 chip, it is probably picking up some cylinders early, or the tach could be off some.

Try a 3000 chip in the box.put in park and look at the tack.rev it slowly.mine starts droping cylinders at 2600.

...7lbs. should be fine....do u have a fuel presures gauge that u can watch durning the run? is it losing pressure durning the run?..i'm not doubting it's ign. or rev limiter related, just throwing ideas...how long have you had this issue...does it seem to be getting worse..?

Yea soft touch rev limiters on the MSD's start 300 rpm early. then if your tack is off 100 rpm it can make it worse!! I went through that back in the day to till the guy beside me at the drags said chip it up for that reason (soft touch) and problem was gone next pass??

WELL COULD BE ALOT OF THINGS TO CHECK HERE
??SHIFT POINT, IS IT BELOW OR ABOVE THAT POINT
IF IT IS ABOVE AND IT'S NOT CAUSING THE PROBLEM THEN, LOOK AT ELECTRICAL
OR MECHANICAL (IE, VALVE SPRING TO WEAK)
COULD STILL BE REV LIMITER PUT IN HIGHER LIMIT
THAT IS SIMPLE!!
7# FUEL PRESSURE ALWAYS SOUNDS GOOD ?? BUT DOESN;T MEAN YOU HAVE THAT WHEN IT HAVING IT'S PROBLEM
#1 LIMITER FIRST
#2 FUEL PRESSURE PUT GAUGE WHERE YOU CAN SEE IT
(ALSO CHECK SIZE OF FUEL LINES (TO SMALL, BENT?)
#3 CHECK VALVE SPRINGS FOR CORRECT TENSION
THIS USUALLY A SIMPLE FIX ON MOST SITUATIONS
A MSD BOX IF IT FIRING ITS GOOD
IT CANNOT PICK AND CHOSE WHEN TO FIRE, IT IS JUST TOLD TO FIRE, YOU CAN PERFORM THAT TEST EASY!
IF IT FIRES FROM COIL TO DIST CAP, ITS A GOOD ONE,
NEED TO CHECK BEYOUND THAT POINT

Incorrect... I have had a box cause a high end miss
and did all the checks(pulled the limiters, checked
ground and hot leads), finally changed my 7AL box with
my spare and the miss was gone... put the old one
back on and the miss returned(same day) then changed
it back to the new one... miss gone. I know of a
couple others on here that have had the same issue

By the way.... turn off your caps lock... thanks

I had this problem and it turned out to be a valve spring.
I chased fuel and electrical for a couple weeks till I got it sorted.
It would pull 1 and 2 just fine , but high gear near the lights , it just nosed over and sounded like it was against the chip.
Much head scratching by people who are smarter than me ( which is most people ) till I got it figured out.

Get a good volt-Ohm meter and check the spark plug wires resistance. I have had a similar intermitent miss in high gear above 6000 RPM. It turned out to be the #4,6 and 8 spark plug wires

I'm one of those others. Mike let me try his spare 7al and problem solved. Not saying this is your problem but it does happen.

you had a connection problem
box that fires by the test is good!!!
Call M S D they tell you that!!
it doesnt know when to fire or not,
it is told to fire, thats all it does!!
now you can have elect interferance causing that same erractic misfire such as having you're dist wire running with alt wire ,,
other things electric shifters controls
we all like our wires run together looking nice and tight dont we??
thats why i can key down on my c b radio and get free car washes
go thru micky ds and open their cash drawers
sorry for caps

Thats what I thought also, but when you do a A-B-A
change and the problem comes and goes it wasnt a
connection problem.... yes you are correct that when
I sent it back to MSD they checked it out and said
nothing was wrong.... BUT when I got the box back
and tried it again it worked fine(still had to pay
the $35 bucks). I know of others that have sent their
boxes back and they said the same but it came back
working properly
