There were some left coasters in 05&06 that shipped their cars, flew in and did DW and had them shipped back home.If people from Fl,LA,AL,Canada and Australia can do it I dont see why Californians cant. I'll even admit Id wish Elvis would have made it.Do you really think people go just to get their car in the mag?? Theres no guarantee of that.I met people from all over after going in 07.NA/BB is a class that does need a Mopar It was the most intense thing Ive done an a long time.
In 07 Ev Bernado was leading SB/PA heading into the last day.First pass he grenades, tranny, driveshaft and rear end.He had a spare tranny in his small trailer but nothing else.Another racer pulled his jug for Ev to use.Mikes driveshaft out of his Cuda fit!! 5 of us swpped it out in under an hour. With 15 minutes before cutoff Ev clicks off a low 8.50 for the win.Thats DRAGWEEK.I'll be taking my RR for the DD class in 09.Will I win.No.Will I even qualfy.Probly not.Its about the people and the journey. Most people who havent gone dont know what they are missing.
Last year I was going as a passneger with a friend from Colorado.A week before DW he broke his shoulder and had to bow out.I watched the simulcast all week from home.My wife said I am going in 09.Said something about me moping around being miserable
After 28 years of being thrashed I "think" Mike has something else in mind for 09

My reason for not doing it is very simple...I have no desire to drive 1000+ miles in one week in my car. CHIP

The info in your signature makes one ask: "Why not"??? Would seem like a FUN week to me!

Driving it to work a couple of times a week, around town on the weekends, and the occasional trip to the beach is enough for me.
Interstate driving would not be a very pleasant experience for more than 30 or 45 minutes w/ 4.10 gears and 4" exhaust. CHIP

Toughen up princess!
Funny how a lot of people talking their car up as a street car dont want to drive it for more than a half hour or so at one time..........
Not many people who compete at Drag Week dont want to go back the next year. You might be missing out on something..........

I read through my new HOT ROD magazine and one thing was sadly apparent during drag week. Hardly any Mopars and the quickest Mopar was Mike's CUDA with a 10.51. That's flying for a full dressed Cuda with steel magnum 500's and a small block. Where were all the "FAST Street cars" from the Mopart's thread that argued about who has the fastest street car and what is a street car? Is it the economy, could it be that these cars can't drive 1,000 miles and make at least 1 pass a day for 5 days, owners can't take the time off? Or is drag week irrelevant to Mopars? Larson's chevy drove 1,000 miles, ran a 7.25 and a 204 mph on 2 different runs, all on the same tires! Where were all the 7,8,and 9 second Mopar "Street Cars"?

Will we see you there next year?

NOT pleasant ? .. then that is not much of a street-car IMO.

I have ridden in some of the fastest, most famous "streeters" on the planet ..... the Silver Bullet, Steve Lisk's Chally and the Jaws-Mustang ... and had ANY of those guy's wanted to have taken-a-trip-to-FL ...I would have gladly gone.

Go actually ride in a 9 sec car on a 1,000 mile trip and give us a report.

I drove Eddies Duster from Memphis to Bowling Green on DragWeek 08. It was unpleasant. So am I. So is Eddie. We got on fine. I would do it again.

Because 10.20's on just motor is not a very fast Street Car according to the "Street Car" thread, as most of you guys are in the 7's or 8's and can drive them anywhere anytime. Drag week does prove that people have FAST cars and really do drive them more than just to get ice cream. I was at the last Pump Gas Drags with Chip and about 4 more Mopars out of 44 entries. I qualified 22nd and finished 16th. Besides I never said my car was one of the fastest street cars on Moparts It is one of the heavier N/A ones though

2009 BB/NA winner had an average et of 10.15, that puts you in the hunt right out of the gate. Trim a little weight and you'll be a real contender. For me, drag week wasn't about proving anything to anyone. It was just a chance to do something different. I would've gone every year if I was able. I'm going in 2010 and it will most likely be my last year doing it. I didn't bring anything fast in the past and still had fun doing it. This year, I actually have a sub 10sec 4000# package but won't be able to go any faster than 10.00's due to tech, so I won't have a chance to win anything, but it's still an experience of a lifetime

Get a power adder and you don't need a lot of gear or a overdrive unit. 3.55 gears and you can drive it anywhere

If I can sell my little ez 501 I have plans for an aluminum 572 with a turbo. With the 4.10 Dana and gear vendor it would be a 6 speed auto with a 3.08 final drive on a 30 inch radial. That would put me at 2250 instead of 3000 @ 60 mph. At least those are my plans!

I did it 3 years in a row riding shotgun with Jay Brown. '07 was in his blown 69 mach I that runs low nines and '08 and '09 were in his SOHC powered mid nine second 64 Galaxie.
Drag week is awsome! If you strip the car down to the lightest possible race car with no creature comforts and no overdrive, it could be miserable. But Jay (and others too) have proved that you can go fast in comfort. His cars are stock appearing with very confy full interiors, and gear vendor overdrives. https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...e=0&gonew=1

I'd love to do Dragweek in my F.A.S.T. GTX. I'd have to make some changes, like add an overdrive. Or in my 31 Plymouth coupe ratrod. I don't think it will happen for 2010, but maybe 2011??

Joel(TM) gets it! Jay does his homework just like all the veterans do.Once you have the balls to do it once you are addicted.FWIW Larson went 6.99 in Vegas with the only change being getting rid of the 3 year old tires Not a Mopar but he drives it like he stole it.

Id LOVE to do it . Unpleasant? A mopar engine is music to my ears....singing for hours on a freeway ..as long as you have windows that go up and down and wipers...what more do you need? a Cadillac ???

Sounds like an awesome experience--the cruise--the people --the racers--

Hey bad1970dust Jim --- lets take the duster out there in 2010 ! Im IN .

I also would LOVE to do it, but im with JEEPMON on a more extreme level. Starting in Seattle, making it to the midwest, racing for a week, and returning just isnt in the cards. I dont have 2 weeks straight to burn at work, and the financial investment would be too much for me to stomach at this point.

I believe JOEL was the one who said it is the most fun week of your life, and also the most expensive.

If there were a left coast event, im sure there would be alot of takers that haven't made it in prior years.

I love to go, but at my place of work there is only 13 of us. The guys with more senority get to pick vacations first. I got a few people below me, but with whats left after a few guys with 5-4 weeks each get done picking not much left for me to get. I was happy to get 1 week off in august for me and the family to go on a vacation. Just for me to go to the track is a pain at times. Get off work 6 am, sleep for 3-4 hours wake up load up be at track by 2 pm on saturdays.

What does ONE have to do with the OTHER ? ...

Actually owning a 9 second street-car ....and riding in one for a long distance ...and actually ENJOYING it ?

I have no need or desire for a streeter being that fast .... if I ever finally put-together a G-body RWD car ...I am hoping that that will be a 10.90 or so car ...

A N D .. it will be streetable enough to drive to TN or FL.

It would not be constructed any-other-way.

Yes that was one of us! Eddie, despite his reputation went out of his way to help us out.
It was our pleasure to help him out later.
Love or hate him, he is hardcore and a good operator.
We would love to see you next year. 10.2sNA is a seriously fast car. you would do well.
