any RB (raised block) intake. 383/400 intake would not fit.

Wasn't there an issue at one time about the six pack manifolds being factory machined at the wrong angle for complete sealing against the heads?

Well yes, but we were talking 440s Robert....I left out the obvious
no bro it's on me, I missed the obvious
nothing is obvious! the OP is new, has 14 posts, and is asking if a 6-pak intake will fit on a 440...may seem elementary to an experienced mopar guy, but for someone new to the game, they might know that essentially, the 383/400 and 440 are nearly the same block...afterall, same heads, same water pump housing, same exhaust, same oil pan, same motor mounts...but they might not realize the difference between a B block and an RB block! "stating the obvious" is always a good idea!
That being said...what is your budget? as already mentioned...6-paks are NOT cheap, and you said "student on a budget" 6-paks definitely have that "WOW" factor when you open the hood, but a well tuned 4-barrel is MUCH simpler, MUCH cheaper, and will have dang near identical performance to the 6-pak
my 383 stroker is basically a 440 stuffed into a 383 block, and with my holley 750 single 4bbl carb on an RPM intake, it had a best of 505hp on the engine dyno. how much would a 6-pak pick up on my combo? is it worth the extra $1,000 price tag? the holley is what...$600? the RPM is $200 brand new, can be found used for around $100-$120, vs a complete 6-pak set up if you've got nothing now, could run...$1500? $2000?
and on a relatively stock, low compression 440, the 6-pak would pick up even less over a performance 4bbl.
again...what is your budget?

For factory heads 915s are the best because they have closed chambers, then 906/452/346/902 which are all open, theyre all pretty much the same power wise, 906s are a tad better factory but the others are more friendly for porting.
915s arent cheap though, you can probably get a pair of eddys or stealths for the same price as freshened 915s.
Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat Hear my motor screamin while I'm tearin up the street

while you guys munch on your popcorn, I'll toss this out there.
I had my set of 906 heads freshened up, hot tanked, hardened seats installed for unleaded gas, cut just enough to ensure they were square and flat, new valves, springs, and valve job.
I was at $700 for all that. 6 months later, I yanked them off and went with out of the box eddy heads at $1300 for the pair--that was a year prior to 440 Source's "stealth heads" that are what? $900? with the same flow as eddy's, straight plugs like factory heads vs eddy's angled plugs, which can be troublesome with some headers, and a stock looking head!
Had I ported the 906s, I would have been at the same cost of the eddy's brand new.
6-pak intakes...ported iron heads, out of the box aluminum heads...again, what is your budget? with talk like this, next thing you know, someone is gonna say "while you have it apart, you might as well freshen up the bottom end too, and why bother re-sizing the stock rods when new aftermarkets are just a tad more in price, and a brand new casting vs a 40 year old abused and fatigued piece...new rods? bore the cylinders out and go with .030 over pistons to ensure a good piston seal...heck, for a few hundred more, you can toss in a stroker crank and get the complete stroker kit kit for only $1500...
and sure, you'll end up with a 600hp torque monster...but you'll also spend $6,000! how big is your budget?
be careful with that snowball sitting at the top of the hill...once it's rolling, it won't stop!

That post addressed everything except what I'm about
I think the number of guys on here who're concerned at all about stock heads is dwindling rapidly. With the affordability of aftermarket heads these days, it's hard to justify putting work into stock heads. If you can't afford aftermarket, IMO the OP would be best off just working with the heads he has for now. Meaning clean them up, maybe a set of new valve seals and springs and run em until he's got the dough for aftermarket. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif)

Lot's of variables on the sealing issue...That's why they put that little slip of paper in the box with the new intakes telling you to check the mating surfaces before the final install.... ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/musik010.gif)
