Since i asked this question several times and have see other people ask the same Q from time to time i thought i'd share my experience and maybe this is put in the tech archive by the admins.
here is a how to remove a dash in a 71-74 B-Body.
Needed Tools:
Phillips screw driver
Ratchet
Extension
Sockets
Start with removing the bulkhead connector and detach all other connections between the dash and the rest of the cars (AC/heater control cables, speedo cable etc.).
Remove the steering Column.
Then remove the speaker cover on top of the dash by removing the Phillips screws (no picture of this procedure).
Under the speaker cover you will find 4 hex-screws (see arrows). Remove the 4 hex-screws. When you have rust issues in that area, it might make sense to let those screws soak in some rust remover for a few minutes.
Now there are only two screws left. They are attaching the dash to the A-pillars, right an left (see arrows). Do not remove those screws yet, otherwise the dash will come down!
Here's the drivers side (see arrow):
Passenger side (see arrows):
Here is another detail shot of that lower dash bracket (with the dash already removed) that shows why it is wise just to losen the bolts and not remove them completely: the bracket is "open" (see arrow) …
When you have loosened those two remaining screws at the A-pillars, the dash can swing forward. It will clear the heater box an the AC-box without any problems. However, it definitely makes sense to have a second person helping you. Because with the dash swung forward you can check for any wires still attached to the firewall or other stuff like speedo cable, hood relelse cable etc. that might have been for gotten during the preparation. When everything is clear you carfully lift the dash out of those 2 remaining A-pillar screws (see arrow).
And that's it!
