Hello, I found a 1978 360 and 727 trans. which was removed from a Cordoba with low mileage. I'm currently converting my Swinger from a /6 to a V8 and I was wondering if this combo. would be worth picking up and using. Any pros or cons to using a late '70's engine/trans.?
If the price is right, and it all still works good, I say go fo it. There is a kit at Summit where you can turn that 360 into a 408 for under a grand. 408 Swingers are very cool. What are your plans? How about some picts on this new ride.

if it's a good running engine, add a comp XE256, XE262, or lunati 60401 or 60402, and comp 901 springs and go have some fun.

I put a basically stock '78 truck LA360 (milled heads, 484 cam, 750 CFM) in my Dart with the stock 904. Runs 8.60 in the 1/8 with street tires.

It shouldn't take much for a 360 to get into the 12s, & that summit ad is mis-leading, there showing rings/bearings & they don't come with the kit, not that its a bad price as it comes with forged pistons, its still mis-leading, i've already jumped summits azz for having a crappy directory on there sight, maybe i need to jump on them again for mis-leading adds .

If it was running, buy some Schumacher motor mounts (/6 to SB) and drop it in as is. Have some fun! Then, bump it up a bit with a cam or heads and enjoy the difference!
Always looking for my next project!

Is this the kit you're talking about? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SCA-1-98112-1/
Yep, thats the kit were useing for the 87 Dodge 4X4 build. Found a good 360 from an 84 pickup. Thinking about useing RHS 360 X heads or the RPM's.
Joedust 451, The adds do look a little misleading, heck the picture isn't even close to what's in the add. But they do tell you that under the picture.
71 Furious, The new RHS 360 X head looks to be a good head. We sure hope to hear more about them before we order a set. Lot of circle track guys are running the RHS 360 X head.
Your lock up converter will get you the best milage on the street. Just call Cope racing trans and he will have the best advice for you. Maybe there is a lockup with the right stall that will work for you. I know a few guys with 12 sec cars running lockup converters.

Yeah it should work great, I had almost the same deal- low mile 77 360/727 in my 67 Valiant. I ran the MP 280/.474 cam, performer rpm intake, 3310 holley, headers, B&M 2,400 converter, cheetah MVB and 3.23's, It was a great combo on the street.

I put a 360/999 combo out of a 79 Cordoba in my /6 72 Dart. originally it was a 2bbl 360. Put in a 340 cam, added a 4bbl, had fun for years. No problems. My advice is to just swap it in and run, if you decide at some point you want more you can worry about that then, trust me the stock 360 will be a very nice improvement over a slant.
Two things, are you sure it's a 727? And you will not be able to run the Cordoba's kickdown setup, it's hit the firewall before full throttle.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.
