I like my 1/8 inch Lexan. I use the stock rubber gasket but I use a rubber u channel from McMaster Carr that brings the thickness back to the factory 1/4 inch. Works very well for me but I also do use a center support.

I went to the McMaster Carr website. Many types of U-channels and materials. What type did you use?

Has anyone tried glueing a strip of Lexan around the edges to double its thickeness? I don't know about the windshield but I thought it might work well for the door windows. I have a 64 Belvedere post. I will make the front glass functional. I was thinking not only on the front and rear but across the top as well. With the window down, it would look like the stock thickness. With it up it would fit snugly into the upper channel. I would assume it's just like glueing Plexiglass.

We use 1/4" aircraft lexan with the syock gaskets and it works great.

Bob,do you heat bend yours for early B-Bodys? If so how do you do it? If not how do you bend the lower corners into the rubber channel. I'm actually thinkinking of using 1/8". It seems to bend pretty easy.

Doug,we use Makrolon lexan,we cut it to fit,put it in place, pull it in shape with a couple of small rachet straps, turn on a couple of HD heat lamps and let it take it shape. We then let it cool. Some of the cars including mine have had the stuff in for 20+ years and it still looks like glass, you can polish scratches or dullness out.We had decals on Donnys 65 and he used some bad stuff to take off the glue and actually dulled it really bad,it polished up like new.

FWIW my car has Pro Glass in it all around. The front and rear are in gaskets with the stock trim in place. People think it is glass all the time. They have both stayed n place so far with bo issues at all at almost 170...

Street driven? What are you going to do about wind shield wipers? I would keep the glass, why pay for something that you'll be kicking yourself in the butt for when you can not see out of it in a month. You can't just take a rag and wipe lexan off with out doing damage, before you know it all you'll see is swearils,

Good point, never thought of this. But, I do use RainX on the windshield and have driven home several times in the rain with no problems.

Thanks again for all the info guys!

Lexan is used in aircraft on all windows, I have scrub many bugs off of the windshiled on my airplane, especially when landing in Phoenix in the spring, summer and fall It flys at 185 MPH level at 6500 ft above sea level, I have hit a big batch of bugs as high as 10,000 ft descending into Sacremento, CA duirng the summer, it was hard to see out of the windshield. The bugs clean right off as long as you use the right cleaners for Lexan as Al said the scratches clean up easily with the right cleaners and polishes

Cab, don't keep us in suspense. What are the correct cleaners and polishes??? I just started using some I got from a round track shop, it's better than anything I've used before. Will have to get the name from the shop.

Go to Micro-Gloss.com they have simple polishes and restoration kits for poly carbonte ( Lexan ) glass, i have taken a crash coarse in aircraft glass restoration in aviation school and this product works IF you follow the steps, the multi step micro-mesh restoration kit is great but takes some time. the finger nail buffers that you see in drug stores etc. is made by this company. it will also restore yellowed lexan and plastic headlight covers that are weathered over time. Never use window cleaner on lexan it causes the yellowing nor any kind of cleaning or water repellent chemicals on lexan. evan car wash soaps will discolor lexan, plain water and your hand is best if you dont have any lexan cleaner, there is also Clear View and AVL plastic glass cleaners wich are aerosal spray cleaners, use a soft flannel or soft cotton to wipe lexan with, Ive been told to stay away from auto parts plasic polishes cuz they cause yellowing too.
