Totally up to you. Do you want it to look nice and professionally done, or do you want it to LOOK like you did it with home Depot fittings. As you say, one likely works as well as the other and there are some who are all about functionality, forget looks. Me personally, I want my stuff to look good as well as function. You have to determine which group you want to be in. If you want it nice, expect to pay for it.

When is cheap not cheap?

if it has no risk then do you what you think aesthetically.

There are too ways of lookin @ this, the hole bling thing is cool if your willing to bend over and open your wallet, If going fast safely is important than there is a lot of aerospace and air craft parts available that out preform the racing industries standards for similar or less money, But then again this is the opinion of someone that pressure washes mud off his engine after a few passes Don't get me wrong, I do admire the total package on lots of race car builds knowing the time and money and pure dedication that goes into some builds, but I do see Teds point also

So was I stupid to spend the extra $50 to avoid looking mexicant, red neck, getto or whatever you want to call it. My Dad would have used the Home Depot parts and never given it a second thought!!

And you care if people think you are a "mexicant, redneck" etc? If you can do it cheaper, and its still safe then do so. I draw the line at safety, as for looking like a redneck, i could care less what people think
