400 junkyard motor, 440source aluminum heads, mp .509 cam, edelbrock rpm intake, and schumacher tri-y headers. it will save you time because you will want to stuff a big block in there eventually might as well do it now

A well built stroker 340 will keep up with that. Unless your going to spend a little more money, the stroker small blocks are an excellent bargain.
Kyle, the 360 you have spec'd out is very similar to my current set-up. You will need more carb though and a quick advance distributer. Power should be around 350 if you buy a better carb.
My current 360 combo is 484/284 purple cam, 9.5:1, stock 360 2.02 heads and airgap with a QF 750dp in my '78 with 4:56 gear and a low gear setted A500 OD trans. I also went to mopar quick advance distributer and added a 1" spacer under the carb. The stall converter is a tight 3000 and the engine would like a little more. I recommend a low gear setted 904 with a 9" converter around a 4000 stall and 4.10 or 4.30 gear.
Now I plan on a 416/340 with almost the same duration cam, but a solid with 1.6 rockers and final lift at the valve around 0.600". This should give me the same idle and driving characteristics, yet scream like a bracket engine. Still looking for a good set of cast pistons around 11:1 compression though. With the heads I am still undecided.
Meanwhile, my current 360 is going to get the 1.6 rockers, 3" exhaust and maybe a tunnel ram. I have two sitting around, but not the carbs.

true but where will he find a cheap 340?? anyway i was just joking around, trying to get another a-body guy to join the bigblockdart forum i had a nice 360 too, here are the specs, it was a decent combo
360 mp shortblock, 10:1 - not sure if these are still available .509 cam rpm air gap intake eddy heads tti headers 750 DP carb
motor was strong but the 3.23s and the stock trans killed it, that was next on the list but decided to go big block when i realized it was going to come one day anyway, and the parts were about the same price. its never been easier to do this combo, and even if you can get a small block to get the same numbers, theres just something about a big block. whatever you do make sure you give some attention to the trans or it will be a dog
why hello there

Just picked up an unbored 340 block $150...He had a couple more, but wasn't parting with them.
I am real curious to see what the 1.6 rockers will do for my 484 cam 360....

Heres the combo I'm looking at then I guess. KB107 10:1 Pistons LD 340 Comp Cams XE268 Stock 360 Heads with valve job probably 2.02 Holley 600 Vac. Secondary Dougs Headers 1 5/8 into a 2 1/2 inch dual exhaust with Delta 40's for mufflers Normal electronic ignition system from Mopar Performance What can I expect for a rough power estimate?
Your combo sounds fine to me. I wouldn't spend the money for the 2.02 valves unless you eed to reseat the valves and replace some anyway. For your set up you will gain absolutly nothingand posibly take away some of your low end. The bigger valves come more into play on in the upper RPM range which youwo't be using. All the guys recommending this intake or that - why- you already have a great intake with the LD340. Use it. The Airgap MAY or MAY not be slightly better but not enough if any to be cost effective for you to switch. FWIW it is what is on teh Duster in my sig.

Above a 3000 stall, most single planes will more than out perform the airgap. I did blend the 1" spacer and clean it up a little, but I have a truck, and its shaped more like a brick more than anything, so I tried the air gap...So far, not impressed, but with a any other vehicle, it would have got a nice single plane.
My old '72 Cuda did extremely well with a 750dp, TM5 and a 2" open spacer all blended in. I also had a tight 8" 4700 stall convertor and a low geared 904 and 4.30's with 10x29's on it. Ran 12.0's all day with a 1.61 60ft and pump gas 340 with the 484 cam.
My 416 will get a single plane or TR, just not sure which one yet.

Gee! Every comparison test I have seen of the air-Gap and a single plane the single plane only started to have an advantage above 6000 rpm. And the Air-Gap had it all over the single planes below 6000 rpm.

How about getting back on topic. Kyle DOES NOT need an intake as he already has an LD340. Whether the copies are junk or not is for another thread. Please stick with posting combos. Thanks Kyle you know my 360 combo pretty much. KB's, ported U heads, RPM performer, 268, 750vs, Dougs headers, runs OK. The machinist/builder knows his stuff. He'll get you a good gombo that will work.

Maybe we shouldn't discuss anything and leave it all up to the 'builders'....If everyone followed your advice, no one would learn anything. I might be a tad off topic, and the out dated LD340 might be the best intake ever made, but there are OTHER options, and some work better than others in certain combos.

That may be true but the point is he already has the LD340. Which may be old school but it still ranks right up there with the new school and still demands top dollar. dgc333Quote:

single planes are built for higher RPM's and not noted for low end

I'd say with that combo, don't bother getting 2.02 valves. Just invest in a good three-angle valve job...and maybe spend the money you were going to spend enlarging the valves, instead spend on a little bowl work...not mandatory, but would be money better spent. Could go for broke and save up for some eddy's...
But a stock head, good compression 360 with a good cam like the compXE268, headers, good ignition and carb I would guess would put down an easy 350-360HP. Probably anywhere b/w 360-400ft-lbs of torque. If you saved up for eddy's, 400hp is very likely with the combo above.
The great thing about this combo would be that it's very streetable. It'd run great even with 2.94...since you've got the 3.21's, you should really be set.
I'd probably make sure I've got a nice 2200-2400rpm stall torque converter b/w it and the 904. Might want to go through the 904 and beef it up a little with good clutches, etc.
I'd estimate solid mid-13's at sea level. Very similar to my original combo in the heavier 4 door valiant, only with a better cam and more compression. Throw in the mix the weight advantage and better gearing...yeah, mid 13's shouldn't be a stretch at all, and decent gas mileage can even be had.
It won't be the fastest, but it's nice to have a drive anywhere, well manered older car that runs strong like that.
And the second combo you post would likely be in the 370hp range...410-420 with eddy's.
But be ready to go with a chrome box on the second combo...the orange boxes start pulling timing around 5000-5500-ish rpm's. Forget the exact number, but it was a noticable difference for me when I went a chrome box on a later combo.
