More converter and headers would really help. For a simple valvetrain that doesn't require much spring it's not a bad choice.

The .528 has some lope to it even in a 470 inch motor so in a 440 you'll notice the idle.
It is a nice street cam with good performance up to 6500 rpm or so. I know a lot of guys think it is a small cam but it really works good with exhaust manifolds and it makes plenty of power.
In a 440 you'll want to advance it a little bit and you'll need to add some initial advance to the ignition and probably fiddle with the carb a bit to get a clean idle. The dual plane intake will help you out but you might find that even with the dual plane the 850DP won't be super friendly. Try it and see how it works but I wouldn't be surprised if a Edelbrock 800 cfm wouldn't work a lot nicer on the street than an old school 850DP.

I have the 528 in my 470 (that AndyF built the shortblock). Have port Edelbrock heads, headers, an Edelbrock dual-plane, just installed a Demon 850 DP. Have 16 or 18 degrees of intital. The thing starts on the first revolution every time. Idles with some lope. I'mable to granny drive around the neighborhood all day. And mashing the pedal to the floor cause a lot of smoke behind the car for some reason GREAT cam. Intially I had a slightly larger mechanical and a single plane. UGH. Hated it. No bottom end. Loaded up when I would granny drive it. Didn't turn on till 2000 rpm. PS I have manual brakes but get solid vacuum in the low teens which should be good enough for power brakes. PPS When I get time I'm gonna pull the TTI headers off and install manifolds.

CH4B intake (air grabber hood)
you beeter check hood clearance real close wit hthat manifold , it's taller than stock a little and at least one board member dented his hood on some bad advice that it would clear ... from me because I ASSuMEd it was the same height as stock ...

I ran it in a $300 440 I threw together for my truck a few years ago. It was a torque monster, it was picking the front wheels 6-8" on launch. Dave
Dave you must have donw something right, Larry put one in his mid 12 second 440 wagon along with KB pistons in place of his 509 and went backwards. Had much better manners and streetability but the 509 was much more cam for the strip for him. It is actually a lessor cam than the 509 after you take the lash off the .528 you end up in the .500 area.

John, would you happen to know what carb your friend used when it hit the hood? I wonder if a Holley as opposed to a Carter/Eddlebrock would make a difference.
only difference is down track as in the holley is WAY better...lol CH4B should fit under the hood no problems even w/ a holley. I ran one on my 67 coronet w/ a 1/2 4 hole spacer and no problems.

Don; I remember you telling me about Larry's 528 experience. I was running 11.26-1 with the 528, that might have made the difference. My cranking compression was 205 psi. Other than that everything was the same, it was hooking so hard the body twisted enough to pop my drivers door open on launch. Dave

I ran the .528 MP in a 440 powered '71 'Cuda with 3.23 gears and a 2500 stall.
Great street manners and reasonably fast at the track too!
It did tractionless 13.5's @ 104 with a stock cast iron intake and 750 Holley on top. 9.5:1 CR.
The cam and Holley were really the only mods to the engine.
I drove it at the track like I drove it on the street. Same crappy radials.
