Do you have rev limiter or tach on it that could be malfunctioning ? Thanks - 69rrvert
no rev limiter, ignition is the mopar preformance electronic ignition kit, stock.
I do have a tach, old sun pro II, but it's been in alot of other cars and never been a problem and allways works. But how could a bad tach cause ignition issues? i'm curious. Now that i think about it, the power connection to the tach was intermittant, i actually just fixed that last night - it was just a bad connection, but i haven't driven the car yet. I also put in the stock orange ecu yesterday, just have to test the car now.

Glad to hear you worked it out! What box did you end up going to?
When i had my shutting off problem (where the car would just shut off when driving), i put on a new chrome ecu (the "good" one), and replaced the balast resistor. The problem was the balast resistor, but i figured i'd install the chrome box since i had it, and use the orange box as a spare. As i sorted out the car otherwise mechanically, i never really drove the car hard until lately. That's when i noticed this issue, and i knew it did'nt feel like a fuel issue. Actually the car pulls alot harder with the orange box, funny, i thought these things either work or they don't but that's not the case. The car ran fine with the chrome box except for the high rpm miss, but i could have sworn it was the seccondaries just slamming shut at WOT, but the ign box was an eaiser thing to try first!!!!

so, interesting plot now.....it thickens. After putting the stock orange ecu, everything was fine, until i drove the car for 2 hours straight all highway....then i took my exit and as i came to a stop, car dies. I'm thinking to myself not again. I ended up putting the chrome POS back in the car to get home. The chrome one does not shut off the car, but has the high rpm issue. so it looks like my original shutting off issue was not the balast resistor, but the orange box, i thought it was the balast resistor since when i changed it and the ecu at the same time the car never shut off again. Today i picked up a new mopar orange box fromt he dealer, installed it, and i hope this one works.......i have yet to start the car!!!! i'll update after the test drive.

Sorry to drag up this old post, but did this ever solve the problem you were having?

Yes i did. It turned out to be a combination of 2 things, Bosch platinum plugs gapped to 0.045" and the ecu. I bought a chrome box from the steelership, and that solved the problem. The plugs didn't help and i changed out to champions RJ12YC gapped at 0.035" and then it started pulling really hard right to 5500rpm's, then shift, and YEEHAA!!! the plugs weren't causing the miss, it was the ecu that was the problem. Funny how 2 napa boxes and 1 orange dealer box all did the same thing....but the chrome box from the dealer is perfect, the car even starts better....
good luck...
