Lockout lever is gold, the tube that it is welded to is phosphate.
Amazing how an unchallenged lie can become the absolute truth.

Bad news Bruce. Just got back from my paint supply store and I find out that Krylon has discontinued the Make it Suede paints! All the colors. I went to other stores that carry Krylon and I can't find one single can. What a bummer. I have a few left in stock but that is very annoying because it worked so well. You may have better luck in your area if some cans are left on the shelf. Jules

Bruce Original manual shaft on top paint goes up about 15 1/2", solid up to about 10 1/2" then light spray the rest of the way. Restored power shaft on bottom, I think I duplicated the paint (Ditzer 9000) line on that one and it went up about 19". The amount of paint on the shaft varied. When I did chemical testing on the tube it responded with a passative coating on it. If you want a suede look try "Dry" spraying some of what you painted the column with.
Amazing how an unchallenged lie can become the absolute truth.

Ok, I wanna know how you did such a nice crimp on the coupler seal clip.
Bill I installed the seal and clip on the coupler, put it in my vise and compressed it for a snug fit, I then used a chisle that I rounded the end off and set the pinch over the raised part of the coupler. Then pryed the tabs back enough to remove the clip for reassembly onto the shaft, and then again used the chisle to reset the tabs. Pic is of an original clip, see how tabs are rolled.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I experimented with 3 different blacks and settled with Duplicolor flat black, and then used a matte clear coat.
Yes the shaft and coupler are natural steel.
Did you put anything on that shaftand coupler for the "natural steel" look? Or did I miss a post? Thanks, great job and thread!
