Thank's JIM

Pretty much any parts supplier has them. Mancini Racing, Jegs, Summit, etc. $315.95 for the CSR shield from Mancini Racing. CHIP

If you get a billet drum in there ... just use the MINIMUM "protection" that is required. You do NOT need that super-high-dollar and/or fancy-stuff since with the special-drums there is no possiblity of the trans ever coming apart.

If it's man-made, then there's always the chance of failure. Saying there's no possibility of it ever coming apart is ridiculous.

I'd much rather have the CSR shield than a blanket. CHIP

OK Mr ..... tell us all here HOW that is possible.

You would have to have a engine capable of RPMing like a F1 motor to explode an aftermarket billet front drum.

Oh ...and I never said NOT running any safety equipment ...I just suggested that you did NOT have to empty-your-wallet to protect yourself.

I'll stay out of the p*ssing contest, but aftermarket drum or not I have a good shield on my car....the CSR are nice, and the blankets can be a pain, but if you have a stock firewall and are using stock type motor mounts the shields can be a real bear when trying install the motor...I hammered the firewall/floor seem-lip flat and it was still a real PITA getting it in, I had to remove the motor mounts and position the engine in, then re-install the mounts once it was all in place, not a real enjoyable job...while doin this I would have traded the shield for a blanket..lol....this is just my experience...

P*issing contest ? ... not my intent at all. WHY NOT clear this matter up .. here and now. This has been discussed several times and I would like to know ... and I am SERIOUS ....

The fun-car that I am putting together (a FED) .. I am going to have a 727 BETWEEN MY LEGS ..and I want to build a trans that is bullet-proof(as far as exploding) ....

I ask this again ... How is any-type of explosion possible using an alum or billet-steel drum ?

Like I said, ANYTHING can fail. Whether it's billet or whatever, it CAN fail. Sure they are very strong and it's unlikely it would come apart, but saying it's impossible to blow one up is going out on a limb. CHIP

Thanks guy's I order 1 from Summit early today.$328.00 with shipping.

We are planning to run in the 7.80 class next month, didn't have any problems with the blanket just think that the trans will cool down faster.

496 Preadtor head Duster running 8.50's motor only,
going to spray a 400 shot to run 7.80 or faster.

And you think a glide won't explode...I have a co-worker/friend that has no case or drums left of a glide after it exploded...and this happened in reverse.

I too myself use a billet steel drum and CSI carbon-fiber shield to protect myself...though I did have the shield prior to replacing the drum...but I still use the shield also.

Eddie's in Florida, were in Chicago and run at GLD and Byron in the IMSM series. For what it's worth the trans is from Keith 727 specialist.

Wouldn't mind knowing what goodies you have in the 727.

As Chip says, anything can happen. The billet front drums do not prevent the sprag from failing which is the reason the drum is spun up so fast in the first place. Along with the front drum, the sun shelll is also being rotated at 2.2 times engine speed. If the billet drum has a small flaw or the sun shell had a crack or a slight imbalance condition, either could explode after a sprag failure. The TCS testing shows their aluminum drum failing at a little over 22K which translates into an engine speed of 10K. Not that unrealistic if you have a sprag failure at launch when your right foot is planted on the floor. Sure, there's rev limiters, but there's always a chance that something may fail. Better safe than missing body parts!!!

I went through 4 of them with my trans down at Summit trying to get one tha lined up. None were even close. And after seeing those pics that were on here a while back where the drum went through the sheild, I'll stay with my blanket.

I must have got lucky had 1 shipped from CSR and it went right on to me the blankets are just to big and bulky and the CSR shield also acts as the flex plate shield and is cert for 5 years instead of the 2 years with a blanket

I know, It's me

Everyone else has them fit the trans with no trouble, I go through 4 and none fit

Everyone else has them fit in their B bodies with out having to do much more than smak the lip of the firewall flat. Only way I get it in there is by cutting the tunnel out and fabing a new one

I think you will need a shield no matter what is inside your trans in order to pass tech, it looks like 10.99 and quicker. Check out this link http://www.nhra.net/content/about.asp?articleid=34603&zoneid=101
