Hello Dodge Truck Fans! I just stumbled onto this site specifically searching around for 440 trucks.

I have a 78 Custom D-150, shortbed, sweptline, 440, 25,000 miles still running the original date coded spark plug wires! the truck has bucket seats, tac, volt, vac, oil pressure gauges and an AM/FM 8-Track. Paint is weak, wheels changed to cop wheels.

Any opinions as to current value?

Again, just thought I'd say hello.

I am not sure as to the value of your truck but was hoping you might be able to assist this gentleman.

welcome d14bd8s,
Sounds like a nice truck. I saw a black one similar to the one you are discribing at the Mopars at Bristol show. I believe it a few more miles than yours but they were asking around $8000 for it.

Would love to see pics.

Welcome once again and enjoy.

nice to see another 78 440.
please go into the "moparts club and member registry and sign into my registry. or PM me.

nice to see these trucks coming out of the woodwork. i think that makes 6 total so far for 78.

as far as value, it all depends, i would say 8-10K depending on condition, low miles is an added plus.

at 98 Nats i seen a 76 very similar to yours w/40k on it going for 8k, it was still for sale as of 2000 or 2001. 70's dodge are starting to come around, bout time.

only one draw back to these trucks coming around it makes parts more scarce for ones who have had them for years

ok , I need some serious help. This might take a while....so me and my da are supposed to tow an old dodge to the junkyard for his friend who just got it to steal the motor (an original 440), so we load it up on the ramp truck, and on the way to the jy I watch it in the rear view mirror all the way. When we are gettin close to the yard, I say to my dad "hey, this truck is pretty cool, why dont we just keep it" Now my da being a dodge fan his whole life says yes. H has 2 68 coronets, and a 70 challenger R/T. He restores cars for a living, and has never owned a dodge truck. This one, has a stepside bed, 727 trans, dana 60s front and rear, 33's with the white spokers, roll bar, no floors, half a steering wheel, wiring harness hanging out the window, no rear window, huge hole in the roof for a sunroof. covered in rust, the works....ITS PERFECT!! Now, the truck is supposed to be a 78, according to the VIN on the title. However, the truck has the square headlights and the body lines of an 85, with a stepside bed w/ a steel bottom. Im not even sure what the hell model this truck is, and ive now fully restored it. It had yellow color behind the dash and on the firewall, so im guessing it was yellow from the factory. The VIN is W14BD8S252608. It is definitely a BB from the factory, but thats about all I know. Now the 14 in the number says its a 1/2 ton correct? Well it has Dana 60s, so somebody swaped those in i think. Its also supposed to be a sweptline bed. So I figure all this out after I restore the whole truck, and the reason I found it all out is because of this site. Now I need all your help trying to figure out what model truck this really is. The doors and complete front nose have been swaped to the newer style, and it has a bed from a 81-85. The VIN says its a 78, but it has all 80s parts except the cab. I can tell the older cab by how it is rounder on the backside of the roof. The newer ones were more sharp of an angle. The rollbar I think is an original that came in the stepside bed. I only know of 2 people who have owned the truck, and I called the earliest owner and he told me when he had it it had the regular sweptline bed on it, and he use it as a carpentry truck. So somebody in the middle of him, and the guy who took the motor changed the whole bed and some other stuff(like the axles). IS THERE ANY WAYS TO FIGURE OUT EXACTLY WHAT MODEL THIS TRUCK IS. were only special trucks yellow, or maybe it was a lifeguard truck or something. And what stepside came with rollbars from 81-85 if any. I can use all the help I can get on this one. If you need any more info just ask. Ill keep looking back here each day. My screen name on AIM or AOL is EJohns2004, so I can have a real convorsation with you about my truck if you want to.
THANKS!!

I am thinking that the value should be arround the 8-10k range depinging on condition. I would love to see some pics of it. I have a few 440 trucks and love seeing the 440's especially!!!

78Dodge383, check this link for your VIN info. RCC VIN decoder. RCC also has a section on factory roll bars under Body in the FAQ area. Hope this helps.

thanks Cheeto. I didnt even know about that site, but it helped me. I talked to the guy that owned my truck before, and he said when he had it 6 yrs ago, it was 2wd. I think somebody just changed the D in the VIN to a W and put a 4wd chassis under it, but he is gunna find the guys name that he sold it to for me.

sweet, that looks like a real sleeper truck, there is a 77 running arround my home town that is identical to your truck, except that it is a slant 6 with a 3 on the tree. once again, sweet truck. By the way, was it orignally a radio delete truck???

a set of these shields can be made if you have a templete to go by and correct rubber material. I made a set of them a few years back for a guy that needed a set of them. I used part of a thin el-cheapo mudflaps that were almost the correct material, the hard part is locating the material to make them from. The only difference is between model years, and if it was standard cooling or air conditioned/max cooling.

Did Dodge trucks originally come in a Baby Blue (I think it's baby blue?) like D14BD8S's truck? Does anyone know what color (what kind of blue) that is?

I noticed that my '76 440 has a very light blue like that under the red paint. I also noticed the light blue underneath the cab where it was never painted over with red.

My 77 brochure shows a light blue that looks like the same color. It's actually called light blue.
