I'm running a 904 behind a 402 in a 66 Dart. Trans was rebuilt, fully manual shift, 5 disk in front pack, and bolt-in sprag. Have about 50 1/4's on it and about 800 miles street use....

I have built and ran them behind every thing from 273 to 402 strokers and have not had but one go bad and it was because the goober (me)kept driving even though he blew a cooler line, he (me) kept running it till it wouldn't move and filled it again and repeated the process several times till he got to the track (fixed leak there)raced all night drove home with trans slipping, next day forward gears were all gone, burn't up the forward clutch. Other than that they hold up great behind most street small blocks when built properly. Use a 5 clutch front drum 4 rear clutches low 1st 2nd gears eliminate wavy snaprings TF1 or TF2 shift kit and you will be good to go for a long time unless you are running big inch motors with W something heads, then you gotta spend some $$$ on them. Ditch the engine to trans brackets, if you insist on running them get some from a 360 car with a 904

The low 1st gear is a great combination for the short stroke 318/340.
Do not run an old stocker 904 behind a 340. It'll be toast in no time.

read the first post guys!!! Lots of people run either trans without the struts, infact it is hard (impossible) to run headers with them in place. The 318 and 340 use the same two struts with either the 904 or 727. There was a change on some 360 blocks that will let you run the same 318/340 strut on one side (passenger?) but a longer 360 strut is needed on the other side (may have the sides mixed up). Don't loose any sleep if you can't find them or fit them in. A torque strap of some kind is not a bad idea either, for more reasons than just no struts.

Read the first post, guys? The subject TITLE asks if people are using a 904 with a 340/360, then his POST doesn't really match the title because it goes into the braces, not the 904/340/360 title. Some people answered the title, some the post, some both. This post seemed a lot more helpful than most to me.
