I think the carelessness with the flag along with the invitation to have Boyd Coddington advertise his show and sponsors while adding NOTHING to the ceremonial or informational aspect of the unveiling are both examples of how UNABLE that group was to develop and execute a basic system of protocol surrounding the event. I have nothing bad to say about Tulsa or Oklahoma, but the particular people in charge of the event weren't* really qualified to pull it off with any class. * missed that word, had to edit.

This thread has had more whining, sniveling, groveling, bickering and input from all the "armchair experts" than any thread I can remember. This is definitely another instance where I am ashamed to be a Mopar enthusiast.

Well stated, John!
Now I understand where I have been going astray. For all these years my link in favorites for "Peyton Place" has been leading me to MOPARTS. In recent days, the difference hasn't been noticed, at least, on this thread. [though I will admit, some of the remarks it seems have been fueled by passion...]

My Dry the thing out and display it as-is. The whole mystique of the last 50 years was " I wonder what its going to look like". Well.....now we know. The attraction now is to see the retrieved 57 Plymouth. I personally would not find any interest in viewing a "now restored 57 Plymouth that was buried for 50 years". 90% would not believe its the same car anyway. Let the history of the buried 57 continue run its course.

Yeah I know......I can kiss your Personally I have much bigger problems related to surviving and being solvent than whether or not a flag incidentally touches a clean stage floor because of some poor organization on the part of the people that put on the event (mountains out of molehills maybe?). I am pretty sure there was no disrespect on their part towards the flag. and to be honest my post was more directed at the other poster who complained about it like it was some "big deal" It is not. I don't hear anybody complaining about the rotted flags that hang on their poles 365 days a year, including some at State and municipal facilities all across the country, but thats different. At the risk of this turning into a huge political skirmish I will just leave it at that and bow out.

my 2cents: Save this 57 as it came from the tomb, clone the original and store them side by side for the world to see.
This was exactly my thought. For 50 years people have waited to see how she faired, well, now we know. I think to restore it, as someone else said, would take away the uniqueness of it. Just as artifacts from shipwrecks, or ancient tombs are preserved in the "as found" state, I think the 57 should be also. People in the future would get more from the story of the car and the time if its left as is in a climate contrlled glass enclosure with a perfect copy right next to it, for all to see what it looked like when it went in the vault. But, thats just my .
An opinion about the flag touching the ground, I am VERY patriotic about my country, its flag, and our freedoms. I'm the one who posted about taking his kids to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetary on Memorial Day instead of the usual BBQ and yard games, for the purpose of trying to instill in my kids some sense of apprectiation for what we have. But this thing about the flag is a bit over done IMO. For one, I'm sure they didnt intend to let it touch the floor, I'm sure everyone there was pretty caught up in the excitement of the moment, and two, although this was once our nations flag, its not now. Its a well preserved historic relic of our past, but no longer represents who we are as a nation. We are a 50 state nation, its not an active flag. Try to see it from that perspective.

I can understand wanting to restore the car, but would you guys weld, bondo and paint the Bonnie & Clyde car? If it's restored, it's just another 57 Plymouth, not that there is anything wrong with a beautifully restored 57. It's just that it will lose the time capsule uniqueness.
The Bonnie & Clyde car won't deteriorate in air because of bullet holes- my worry is that this thing will completely disintegrate now if nothing is done.
If its all dried out and cleaned up, just how will it deteriorate? Everyone seems to think this but cant give me a straight answer

Artifacts from shipwrecks are not left in there "as-found" state, they would fall apart.
They are stabilized, then displayed.
I have a unique idea on what should be done with car.
Clean and stabilize the body and frame, but not restore it. Maybe coat it with clear to seal the rust and prevent further decay.
Clean the interior, try to save as much as possible. Put it back together.
Rebuild the engine, trans, rearend and brakes, but leave the outsides of them as original as possible.
Then you have a running car, but it looks much like it does now.
Put in museum for all to see.

Worthless I never said that! It is worth plenty in parts, for other cars that are in better shape that need it's parts. For those that say Restore it! Where will the parts come from to do so?Are they just going to fall out the sky as a gift from god?No they are going to come from NOS Stock and parts cars{where those parts cars come from?
Let's not rebuild New Orleans... because the parts are worth more than the city as a whole. Sentimental value is worth something... mystique... something. There's just something about it. There's something about New ORleans too... and I hope New Orleans comes back to the way it was before. I guess I see the car as more than just metal parts that somebody else can use.
