don't count it out. I was given a 72 dodge truck back in the mid 90s that had been sitting in the weather for over 20 years. it had 18k original mile on it. the body was falling off with rust. I put a battery in it drained out the bad gas and it fired with no problems and even drove it. still sounded like a brand new motor.

Going to be a little tougher than that if theres been water and OK mud getting in the cylinder bores. Be stuck fast like an old tractor thats been sitting out in the weather with rain water running down the exhaust pipe for years.

Why did they feel they had to bury it?? Didn't they think of a mosaleum type thing, with a huge marble sealed box on the lawn of the courthouse, enscripted with all that historic mumbo jumbo. That would have been a constant reminder over the past 50 years, and the risk of water wouldn't have been there at all...... duh!!!
Several people have asked this and the answer is quite simple. This was right in the middle of the Cold War era. Nukes were on everyone's mind and it seems like everyone was building a bomb shelter. They buried the car for that very reason. So it could withstand a nuclear holocaust should it ever happen.
Hah - the days of Duck and Cover.

What would be cool would be to see them peel back the covers and start washing off the mud and muck right on TV for all the world to see.
I am gonna bet the best part of the car will be the glass.
